omg hm:fomt was the very first hm game i ever played and i was completely clueless. lol im not sure how i caught on but just give guys things they like. gray likes ores kai likes pinnaples cliff likes grapes ect
you can get crops at the supermarket and such.eventually you actually start making money so you can buy cows and chickens and stuff. idk i havent played that game in so long. but yeah you can also find tips online as well

start a file, play around with it for a while. get used to the controls. the controls in the FoMT games are really confusing because you have to hit multiple buttons in order to do certain things, so until you get the hang of it, it can be a little difficult. (just run around town, pick up random items like weeds and stick them in your rucksack/take them out, switch your tools around and use them, talk to people, etc.)
erase that file and start a new one, now that you know the controls.
watch life on the farm everyday, since it's pretty helpful for beginners (it's like the tutorial, and it goes at about the same pace as the average player, advancing as you progress in time). forage everyday, getting everything in the mountains and on the beach, since you can get a good bit of money quickly that way. use this money to buy seeds, and plant a few crops. there's plenty of time in the day in this game, so as long as you don't plant some insane amount of crops, you can get all your watering and harvesting done with time to spare. this will get you some extra money for animals. chickens are good at first, since you only need to buy one, leave her outside, and pick up her eggs everyday, which you can then sell or hatch into more chickens. cows ans sheep need special tools (brush, milker/clippers) and grass, so save that until a little later.
as for guys... go talk to them all, see all of their black heart events, and then eithe rpick one you like the most or start wooing them all (or a few, if you can't decide). the main site has all of their likes/dislikes.
there is more complicated stuff later on in the game, but until you really get into it and figure it out, just focus on the simpler stuff. good luck~! :D

FORAGE and in the fall make sure you have a basket go throught the mountains and there are some truffles. Also make friends with the priest.
FROM UNOT:
Locked Church Door
If you've ever visited the Church you'll notice that there is a locked door next to the organ. The only way to get the door unlocked is to become friends with Carter, the priest who runs the Church. If you go to visit the Church on a Wednesday evening in the Fall, you'll notice that no one is around but the door is unlocked.
Go through the door and you'll find Carter, who didn't realize he left the door unlocked. Apparently he's fond of the Mushrooms that grow behind the Church and he's been keeping them for himself. If you promise not to tell anyone he'll keep the door unlocked and allow you to go through the Church door to collect Mushrooms. Behind the Church you'll find a Mushroom (70 G), a Poison Mushroom (100 G), and two Truffles (500 G). During the Winter you'll find a piece of White Grass.
You can actually get back past that door without triggering the event, as long as you have a high friendship level with him. The next time you go to the Church on a Wednesday evening, the official event will trigger even though you've been able to get back there for quite a while

That will definitely help you with the guys and their likes and dislikes and where they go when and yada yada. Each day, you should do some foraging, chop some lumber, maybe fish, that's the best approach while you're there at the beginning because that can help you get started while you don't have mush of a farm yet. Like everyone said, watch the TV channel, it will help you with basic controls and planting crops and such. And listen to Nina Star, she know's her stuff.
