I personally dislike Luke and Selena together.
I see this: Selena enjoys seducing men
Not AP Selena. She's as silly and naive as Luke is in AP. She's been sheltered her whole life so she's no where similar to her experienced, diva counter part from ToT
she's the jealous type who'd probably smack Luke for smiling at another girl, which he would probably do completely innocently because he's a happy-go-lucky simpleton.
No she wouldnt lol That's what
Luna would do.
I don't like relationships where one person seems like she'll be telling the other how to think and act for the rest of his life, even if the other is too dense to notice or obey.
Again, Luna. In Luke and Selena's life, Selena is always trying out things Luke loves to do and as playful as he is with their child and in their relationship. She laughs at the way Luke tries to dance too. It's a pretty friendly and fun relationship.
Honestly, Luke's "affection for Selena", based on the events, appeared to me, more like a discovery of arousal... :S.
Is it so strange for a young man to be infatuated by a voluptous woman dancing in skimpy exotic clothing, even if he doesn't have alcohol in his system, which is likely for the second scene, because he enjoys alcohol and is in a bar?
He found her pretty, yeah, but that's how initial attraction begins; you like how someone looks and then you get to know them. After the first scene, they likely hung out because she told him where to find her and he says he'll meet up with her and in the advice scenes this holds true.
If I may continue with other trivial details which you've forced me to dream up with your question- I don't imagine their life plans meshing well. Although Luke is excitable and spontantious, he explictly mentions how he loves Castanet and intends to stay with his family and be a carpenter. Selena on the other hand (and perhaps popular culture has forced this idea upon me) seems like someone who'd rather leave Castanet.
She
loves castanet and wants to stay there, especially when she marries Luke. She's also fond of Kathy and other things at Castanet.
I can't imagine such a girl who wants constantly to be the center of attention, satisfied with dancing in the same tiny bar for the same tiny handful of taken men who won't hoot and holler for her, for the rest of her life.
That's not what AP Selena is like at all. She dances for her sheer joy and for herself, she doesn't dance to be hollered and hooted at. She wants to share her dancing with others, even if its at the bar. That's why she was excited to show you at the beach and so on.
I met Lucy yet, so forgive me if this is all useless, but I can't imagine Selena finding classic motherhood a calling louder than her desire for fame.
...No? She's a good mom to Lucy and though she's a boyish girl, enjoys dancing with her daughter.
All of you people saying "seem" obviously haven't befriended Selena at all in AP. I hate assumptions and made up reasons to dislike someone by their initial appearance.
I have her affection maxed on my male file. I
like her. She is interesting.
As I mentioned, I haven't met Lucy yet, so I don't know how she acts as a mother. I don't doubt that she is a good mother, or that she ever wanted children, I simply believe based on what i know of her personality, that she would not give her desires or fade into the background because she has a child to attend to.
I have only played AP, and all of my opinions come from it.
Is she the jealous type? Selena wishes that the male PC would only look at her, and grumbles that she'll seduce him into doing just that. I got no such impression form Luna whose affection I have also maxed. Luna was strong-willed, but seemed quite sweet.
Is she demanding? Demanding of Luke too? Yes! The first rivals scene: Luke claps and is about to walk away and only her shouting keeps him there. She expects him to want her name and to know her- she shows clearly that she knows she's beautiful and expects it to get herself attention. When Luke doesn't act the way she wants him to, she acts to correct him
Does she love Castanet? So far, I haven't seen so. She complains about the weather often (understandably), hasn't mentioned enjoying any other characters, and hasn't shown to take any particular enjoyment in any festivals whereas other characters do (because they are foreign to her, or she'd rather be a bigger part in them).
She's in Castanet, because it's within her reach. She snuck onto a ship that took her to Castanet. In that place with people, she grabbed a job that would get her the attention she craves.
So, is she self-centered and does she desire attention? OH YES SHE DOES. She mentions it often.
She doesn't dance only because she likes to. She could have danced her heart away on Toucan Island, but she wanted to dance in front of people, like you said, but I seriously believe someone who wants to "dance in front of people" doesn't mean simply in front of a living thing. Why not dance for her mom and dad then? "Dancing in front of people" is for the attention, the praise- to excite someone else, to please someone else-- doing the one dance she knows for the same tiny group of people will bore her and the viewers sooner or later, and not satisfy that desire anymore. Unfortunately, although the game can be played infinitely, the characters themselves only "live" for about a single year, then they're stuck in a sort of distorted time loop... All Selena was programmed to ever know is the initial enjoyment of finally having some "strangers" to dance for, not unlike the initial enjoyment of a relationship- that period called infatuation, which makes happy newlyweds and bitter divorces.
My reasons for why they are incompatible or not
have to come from my perceptions of the character's personalities, because what actually
happens spans over a very short and very particular time, and compatibility is what affects a "lifetime". I simply have to think this way, I want to relate this wonderful fantasy world to the often far less enjoyable reality, and I have lived through and know too well what relationships are and why they are and so on and on. I play RPGs, and even HM for the characters, and while I don't need a realistic background, or personality, I need consistency from characters, and I need compatibility for pairings.
Of course, the Marital Argument event show that infatuation can fade when PCs are involved, but perhaps in this Harvest Moon wonderland, when there isn't human (player) influence, lovers would never leave the infatuation stage? In that case, there should be no such thing as crack pairing! Put everyone in a bikini and we'll all go at it!
