I think it's more open to boys and girls now, although the graphics are extremely cute and would definitely suit a female audience. I always turned away from Harvest Moon when there wasn't a female option because I am a girl and felt more comfortable playing as a girl, but it never stopped me. Even with the 'female' graphics, my 12 year old brother still plays it occasionally when he's taking a break from his usual war and gun fight oriented games.
I think this will be a great hit if this comes to the UK since we'll finally have more options to play as either boy or girl; MFoMT never came to Europe as well as DS Cute and AnWL so only people who knew about these versions would have imported them. We didn't have the female option in Magical Melody and I never bothered to buy a copy because the option was unfortunately removed.
Heh, it seems the newer games are making up for the older ones girls probably didn't feel so comfortable with. Still, I never have any friends in real life I can talk to about Harvest Moon.

A guy got me into the game and I'm a guy, but yes I think I agree that the older games are more suited to males. I don't hide that I play the game at all.
But yeah, for some reason it seems either catered to either gender or moreso to girls. It's hard to tell because a majority of Ushi is obsessed fangirls.
