I'm sure the meaning of USI is known only to the creators. Maybe they're the initials of a Japanese trade school or something? That's what I think of when I see them.

The first hit I got when I Googled it was the University of Southern Indiana, but further survey of the page suggests (to my tech-illiterate self at least) that it has something to do with computers.

Both of those characters were designed before Sunshine Islands came out. Besides, it's not called "Sunshine Islands" in Japan.
