I found the next new Vth Gen pokemon today and I changed my mind.

I liked I, II, III and IV generations but the Vth one...

Dear « Harvest Goddess »! The new pokemon look like « Puppy Doodoo »! They have nothing common with the old generations. Nothing. The starters are kinda ok, but Ononokusu, Doryuuzu, Desukan, Denchura and the 3 un-named ones - they even don't look like pokemon anymore. They remind me some awfully colored robots. I don't know who drew them.

The starters, Chiramii, Munna, Gear, Mamepato, Hihidaruma and Meguroko and funny and they look like a sarcastic version of the old pokemon. I like them and I was hoping to see new cute-funny-looking pokemon. But today when I found the next new ones - I was shocked. Even digimons look much better.

Holy « Puppy Doodoo », the screen is so crowded in 3-on-3 battles. I can't even tell where a pokemon ends and another one begins.

The starter pokemon for the fifth gen don't look that good. If I were to chose one, then I would chose the fire one. It looks the cutest out of all of them. Strange... I always chose the water one... I think I am going to use a starter pokemon from a different game when I get one of the fifth gen games.

I know the game developers are trying to make the game better, but it seems that they might be trying too hard.

and triple battles were already done so it's only a new concept to the main turn-based series

Yeah, most of the newly revealed Pokemon are « Cow Poopoo ».
But thems the breaks.
There will be more Pokemon and besides, if Gen V has any sense, it'll let you trade from Gen IV asap.

This.

And I'll admit, I wasn't a fan of the new ones at first, but it just takes time to get used to them, as it does with ALL generations of Pokemon.

Besides, we have about 80-90ish more pokemon to see. You may end up liking more than you've seen so far. Give it time.

Personally, I like the new pokemon. Some are harder to get used to versus others, but...eh.

I hope that sarcophygous thingy evolves into something cool. That would be nice. I hope it's a ghost type. ;3;

Wha-- most Digimon have way cooler designs than the average Pokemon. Much more complex and they don't have to be cute (the problem with Digimon is that some are way too overpowered.. but the designs are awesome).

But really I think as a whole they're on-par with the other gens. Each one has its winners and its flops.

You are right. My mistake. Sorry.

Digimon look better than Pokemon. Sadly, they will always stay in the shadow of Pikachu :/ Now I'm looking at their pics and I find them really pretty. Too bad the new pokemon don't look like that.

The evolutions are becoming WAY too complex and the designs are becoming stale or uninspired.

A found an article about this on pokebeach's front page. Read and edjumicate yourselves:
There's a team of people that is in charge of monster design. They're listed under "Pokemon Design." They come up with the ideas. They decide which ones are the best and refine them. Then, Ken Sugimori draws those designs. In the first generation, it was a group of four people (Sugimori being one of them), and Satoshi Tajiri's role (the creator of Pokemon) in creating the monsters was basically to approve them and suggest changes after the basic ideas were being designed. He's the only one under "Director" and "Game Design" for the first generation which means that he was in charge of pulling everything together and the overall experience of playing the game.

Nowadays... well, the truth is that in Ruby and Sapphire, Junichi Masuda took over. Ever since R/S/E, Satoshi Tajiri has not been working on the games at all. He's listed as "Executive Director" in most games. What does this mean? "Executive Director" is a fancy way of saying "this is the original creator, he approved this game but was not an active part of development." Occasionally he's listed as an "Executive Producer," which, from what I can gather, means he funded it but was still not an active member in developing it. Finally, in Pokemon Rumble (surprisingly enough), only Sugimori and Masuda are listed in the credits as "advisers" for the spin-off game. Tajiri is not listed at all.

So, Satoshi Tajiri is not really putting his mind into the monsters anymore. However, there is another part of why the monsters look different. The "Pokemon Design" of D/P/Pt was held by thirteen people. Ten of these people did not work on the first generation's Pokemon; Shigeki Morimoto (he's the guy who put Mew into the game) also stopped doing monster design during D/P/Pt. What does this mean? The people coming up with the Pokemon ideas are, mostly, different people each generation. R/S hired a ton of people, and that's why the third generation's style was so different. Black and White has also hired more people.

Thus, the main reason why the Black and White Pokemon look weird is because the design team has new people on it. Also, Satoshi Tajiri hasn't worked on the games for a looooong time (since the Gold and Silver days), thus the reason why Gen III and Gen IV looked so different from Gen I and Gen II. And now Gen V could look very different as well.
So blame the new guys and three old guys for what you think are crappy designs.

I don't think Pokemon is getting worse, but it's not getting better either. I like some of the generation V Pokemon, like the starters (except Mijimaru) and Chiramii, but some of them look like eyesores (I'm looking at you, Hihidaruma). Overall, I think that generations 1 and 2 have been the best, but generations III and IV weren't that bad either.
