I highly doubt it's a clone, it looks too good to be anything like IoH or SI.
Oh, it is nothing like Si/IoH, believe me.
The game is slower, taking care about plants and animals is easy and not boring, no more sun/rain system and your child grows faster. The game has cons too because you can't save the game whatever you want and the characters have little to say.
Well, I've had this game for well over a year now, and I have to say that if you know how to spend your time, it can be a very fun game. As people have said, time moves a lot like it does in AWL, and there's honestly not much to do beyond the Harvest Moon norms. The characters all have their stock phrases as per usual, and unless you stumble upon a friendship/rival scene you're really not all that likely to gain a ton of insight into their backstory.
I'd hardly call it a clone of IoH or SI as there are many fundamental differences, but I wouldn't say that it's all that "new and innovative" either. Probably what you'll get the most fun out of is the weekly bazaar - it's easily the most entertaining event in the game. Now, I'll admit that the random people coming up and asking for free/discounted items gets annoying after awhile, but the sheer interactivity of it makes dealing with them and the other random-encounter people worth it.
The festivals don't even hold a candle to the weekly bazaar. I personally find them boring and a total waste of time (save for the friendship bonuses you get). They're pretty much the same-old, same-old. You walk into town on festival day, nothing normal's going on, and you either show up, talk to the mayor, and see a cut-scene or show up, give the mayor something, and see a cut-scene. Pretty standard. :/
It's still a pretty good game though, and if you were a fan of the older games, you might like this one.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy this game, but now I think I'm going to get it pre-ordered. The only HM games I consistently go back to and continue playing are FoMT and MFoMT (my first HMs), so I'm definitely looking forward to a similar but fresh experience .
