Dialogue Translation
Posted: Aug 04, 2010 3:13 pm
i'll be updating this post with links to translation guides as i get them done. i'll be posting pdfs (which will be prettier) and also a google docs copy to make it easy for people to correct my translations if they want to.
Translations
Intro (Girl .pdf) (Boy .pdf) (Google Docs)
I will be separating these into Boy and Girl versions, because while the Japanese dialog is identical as far as I can tell, the Japanese have an easier time of avoiding he/she/him/her pronouns than English speaking people do. The intro ends around the time when you go to your chosen village. I will get up more for Konohana and Bluebell as soon as I can. (Whew, proofreading/editing takes a while.)
Rudger and Ilsa, both being mayors, have essentially the same dialog for much of the explanatory parts (making it quicker to translate, thank « Harvest Goddess »). The only real difference is their manner of speaking. Rudger loves to end sentences in じゃ and のう and calls you お前さん while Ilsa calls you キミ. I think お前さん is supposed to seem "rustic" so I've translated it as "my dear" (or, "my boy" for the boy version). If you think I'm wrong there, tell my why, and I might change it.
As I mentioned in the original post, I have very little Japanese knowledge. I'm just scraping this together using some basic knowledge of Japanese, the wonders of the internet, and educated guesses. I'm going for a looser translation but hopefully with all the important bits intact. If you think I'm way off on something, let me know and I'll fix it. I'm doing this mainly for my own enjoyment (so I can understand the game) and I thought I'd share. There are people who are working on translating other bits, but I don't know of anyone currently working on the main dialog.
Also, I'm thinking I should make the text smaller, so more fits on a page. Yes? No?
