Wow I must of wrote that statement I said when i was super tired because looking back now it's very faulty logic, haha. Thanks for clearing that up.

Ok, so mechanics aside, I'm still interested in what's up with the technology differences. Why are there no cars or trucks, but there is radio and television?

Maybe the lack of said transportation vehicles is why it's such a big deal when a town is in danger; because they don't have an easy way to move, and them being a self-sustaining, or mostly so, town/miniature economy would mean that there would be less reason for them and the rest of the world to interact, again putting more pressure on the town being prosperous by what the citizens do.

On the other hand, since the friendly earth theme is so strong with most of the villagers, perhaps they try to get by with the bare minimum of technology to live more in harmony with the earth?

Cars function on a different kind of technology than television sets. It's entirely possible for a society to develop one, but not the other.

I believe, however, that vehicles have been featured in a couple of the games. However, given that it's a small town, they don't need cars to get around, and they don't go outside the town much, so they wouldn't need to have vehicles to go elsewhere. In this case, it's more efficient to use things like horses to cart around goods than trucks.

It's also possible that they got worried about global warming and outlawed things like cars, trucks, and the like.

Yes, the older games do feature cars. The very first game for SNES features a truck within the first minute of playing the game (it's what you arrive in).

So I guess they don't need vehicles and can call them in on the rare times they do.
