A broken money system either means that it's too easy to make money and you'll end up with too much money for what you need to buy, or that it's too hard to make money and you'll end up lacking money for what you need to buy.

I'm guessing they mean the former, since money is easy to obtain and what you actually need to buy is limited. They do add things (such as extra houses) in order to burn up your money, but most people won't bother with those (if at all) until after everything important (like upgrades to your barn/coop/house) is done, in which case you'll probably have so much money you have nothing better to do with it anyway. Even then, if you want to play beyond... mid-way through year 2, you'll probably own nearly everything in the game.

The only thing I want that hasn't been mentioned here would be a plot after marrige. 'Cause I finish the plot, get married, have a kid, then delete the whole thing because theres nothing left to do.

Yeah I hear the whole broken money thing, I found that in AWL I was making so much money so easily that I had all the buildings by chapter 3. In other games, I can't think of specifics, but there was almost too much to buy and not as many solid ways to make money to buy even basic upgrades for your farm. Oh like in AP it took me the good portion of a season to get enough money for a simple barn upgrade.

Oh, gee, that's helpful. Not at all vague. Not in the slightest. And certainly not arbitrary. Let me guess, you're one of those "HM SUCKS EVER SINCE 64/BTN/FOMT" people who cant see past their nostalgia glasses and allow themselves to like recent games, right?

I HAVE AN IDEA. LET'S MAKE ALL FUTURE HARVEST MOON GAMES GENERIC, SIMILAR, AND FOCUSED SOLELY ON FARMING SO WE CAN ALL COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT TOO. OH WAIT.
I'm wonderfully descriptive, I know. I haven't even played those three HM's, bro. Oldest one I have is STH. I like TV too, you know. But SI/IoH still kinda sucks.

Yeah, I understand about the broken money system. In IoH, it is SO DAMN EASY to make money. I have over 300,000 G, and the only things I have left to buy are barn and coop upgrades, a basement, and roads. I don't want any of those, though. D:

In AP, I am struggling for money. I have 80,000 G but there is so much for me to buy. I'm saving up so that I can buy clothes for my daughter when she grows up, but I also want to buy a lot of furniture and the next barn upgrade. T_T

Whenever I have my kid, I get so bored of that particular HM game, and never pick it up again. For example, the same day that I had my baby in IoH, I stopped playing because I don't want to go through another 4 years so that my child will be fully grown (I've gone through 4 years already). I would sleep through the days, but there's that stupid moving out problem with the villagers, plus I don't want to get rid of my animals (even though they are such a pain to take care of). >_<

Yeah, it can get pretty bad in IoH. I ended up buying all of the roads, even though they look absolutely ridiculous, just to get rid of some extra money.

I'd consider AP to be slightly more balanced, just because money is fairly easy to get but there is still a lot to buy. Only problem is when you rely on crops and get to a season like winter where money is harder to come by, it slows down a bit all of a sudden...


Also, I'd say they either need to continue some essence of plot after marriage, or do away with such extravagant plots. I mean, it's all well and good to have a plot, but when a plot that consumes a lot of your time is finished (generally around when I get married) it suddenly seems like there's nothing to do. However, in games where there isn't much of a plot you don't have a feeling of "I finished the plot... what now?" The game becomes solely about the gameplay rather than some odd plot, and you end up being able to play for longer. So, I'd personally rather they either come up with a way to continue the "big plot" type games, or just tone down the plot a little so when you're done that it doesn't feel like you're done with the game.

I agree! The overemphasized plot that seems to be appearing in some more recent games (TOT, AP, IoH, SI) really detracts from the actual game for me. It also gives the game less replay value, because I'll pick up the game and be like "Do I really want to complete this plot again?"

I know there's one game that we can do that, can't remember which one, in the japanese version, I think... Well, maybe the bachelors/bachelorettes could have different sexual orientation? Becose setting them all Bi isn't realistic...
And then match it with the adoption idea that have been said earlier. 8D

All HM games have a weird difficulty curve, where it may start out SUPER HARD or whatever-- your tools suck, stamina is low, and so it's harder to make money... but as you continue, it only gets easier and easier. The difficulty level plummets and flatlines until it's so easy and you could buy anything you want. Sometimes when you reach this point there are still some events etc. that you haven't seen yet, but since all the challenge is removed and it's nothing more than a waiting game, people can give up before they 'complete' their game.

My wish is there to someday be a Harvest Moon that doesn't fall victim to that formula...

I'd like something like HM: DS, where we can choose building locations. But I'd want to be able to choose my home location as well.

More animals, the ability to choose at the start of the game to be a ranch (all animals), farm (all plants), or a mixture of both. Maybe even the ability to change from ranch to farm and back after certain milestones are hit in the game. Like ship at least 1 of each produce/product you can make + getting to specific farmer/rancher levels.

Green houses. Though, HM: DS/Cute comes close.

I would really love to see a longer character limit. I'm sick of it being 6 characters. It really restricts me. I wish names could be like they were in FoMT/MFoMT. ;_;
