Food and Item storage?

In Harvest Moon: FoMT, I tried to get the refrigerator as fast as I could. One thing I LOVED about the game was the cooking festival. I would try to collect every possible food in the game and try to win each one. When I heard TV's plot was based upon the cooking contest, I almost jumped off my chair~! The cooking in-game is rather direct, though. (i'm gonna miss those seasonings and secret additions) Either way, i'm still happy to have the cooking contests.

That aside, I've reached Year 2, Spring. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't happen to see any options of storage for large amounts of food and items.
(i've been using my rucksack until now) Are there any?

Your house comes with a chest that you put all of your items in, including food. It's weird, but that's how it works.

does the food's quality decrease when you leave it in the chest?
if yes, does it decrease at the same rate as if you let it in the rucksack, or more slowly?

The tool box/horse cart (they're the same thing) can be upgraded. Better carts have more storage and preserve freshness better. For the larger carts you'll need to rent a stronger horse than the one you start with.

Cart list <-- First column is the name obviously, second column is price, third is weight, fourth is how well it preserves freshness. Within the fifth column you can see the upgrades for storage capacity.

Sweet~ Thanks! Updating that post then.

edit: hmmm a little confused. On this page there are weights listed for each individual cart.
In-game, it also says the weights. But the weights are different in the game and on the wiki.

Well if you unlocked the UFO, I would trust what it says in-game over the wiki, since it's editable by anyone and they could have been mistaken.

If you did unlock it, then I am soooo jealous... I totally need more storage for my massive bug collection... (Drives me nuts trying to collect them within a few days for requests, so I am trying to just keep a stockpile of all the rarer ones, but catching rare ones means I acquire a lot of crappier ones in the process. It's a hassle to sort through them so it would be nice to just have more storage.)

How do you unlock the fancier carts? Does it depend on number of years playing, house upgrades, friendship with Guranii/Kiriku/Sage/Harvest Goddess/etc...? I want bigger cartssss.

No idea. I just use action replay to gather information.
Thanks for the advice. :P
