Multiple pets?

So I was reading on the grand bazaar site here on fogu. And I noticed you can get multiple dogs and cats. So can someone who has the Japanese version or even some of you lucky Americans who already have it tell me how that works? do you breed them with miricle potions or do you just buy more? Also what are the benefits of having more pets, and is there a limit to how many you can have?

You just buy more. The cats herd your chickens, and the dogs herd your cows/sheep.

Ah ok, so do all the cats and dogs look the same? Or can you get ones with diffrent patterns like the cows in Hm:ds?

I believe it's like in SI: they have black or white cats and the two different styles of dogs (which I think also come in two coat colors each).

They come in different colors and whatnot. I don't think they had different patterns, but there are two styles of dog - pointy and floppy eared.
I don't know where the other thread is, but I think someone said that you unlock more colors as the years go by or something of the sort.

Awesome! That answers one of my questions, the other was, how many dogs and cats can you have in total? Cause I do know for a fact there has always been limits on how many of each animal you can have

According to the Assets menu, the maximum number of dogs and cats you can have is 10 (combined, not each).
