I don't really know what triggers it sometimes, I had three of my sheep get sick at once for seemingly no reason and I was like « What The Eggplant »...

Anyway, I've been in a similar situation and they will live for 1 or 2 days if you can't get sick medicine for them right away.

Do you leave your animals out at night? Either way I'd better stock up on some medicine.

You should also make sure that your animals get them in by 9PM game-time. If they don't they can still get sick.

This is just a guess, but maybe 1 or 2 of them got left outside as you said, and then they got sick. Perhaps then it could spread to the other animals? Otherwise I have no idea, sorry. ^_^

Also sometimes I noticed when you have more than 1 (any number but 5 and 10) they will "fight" over the food (well, some will eat and the others will get angry when it vanishes). So let's say you have 3 chickens. They will each get fed on day one, but on day 2 only 2 of them will get fed and the last one will not due to feed being worth 5 meals.

why do my chickens keep getting sick? i'm pretty sure food is left out everytime, and I do nothing to trigger the increase in stress.

Do you keep them outside overnight? If so, then that's why.

then that's exactly why. You need to let them outside. All animals in this game need to be outside frequently or they get sick. It's something new. Just make sure to bring them back in before 9pm.
