That Chihiro's name is a girl's name? I was looking up Japanese names for another game I was playing and Chihiro's name came up in the girls section on names. Poor guy.

I have known (known of at least) a few guys named Chihiro.

It's an uncommon name for a boy these days, but not unheard of because I think it used to be predominately a boy's name. Miki also used to be only a boy's name, but now most people think of it as a girl's name. There are still guys named Miki though. (heh, my signature says it all...)

There are a lot of boy --> girl names in English too, like Taylor and Renee. Those are both masculine names but they are used as girl names a lot now too. Ashley is another example.

Chihiro sounds kinda guyish to me. It isn't bad.

BTW, I've been watching anime where a guy was named "Haruka". Pretty original, huh? :P

It wasn't until the 1960s and onward that Ashley started to be popular as a girl's name. Same with Lindsay and Kelly.

In a summer camp I went to once, the lifeguard's name was Ashley. :) (HIS name was Ashley.)
Yeah there are a lot of "girl" names that were actually originally boy names... xD I can't think of any atm but yeah.... and it's like, "What?? That was a boy's name?? But it's sounds so girly! xD" ...Or something haha.

The name Chihiro just makes me think of Chihiro from Spirited Away so that's why I think of it as a girl's name.... But I'm starting to get used to it being a boy's name. X)
(Plus Chihiro is Chihiro! It fits him!)

Lindsay ?! :O
*traumatized*

lol, I just don't feel Chihiro is a girl name. probably cause its the first time I see someone called like that, in my head its a guy's name.

Oddly enough, I always thought Chihiro was guy's name. It never seemed to sound girly to me.

Oh and Shelby used to be a masculine name. Now there are probably more women with the name. I think.

There are alot of names that used to be predominantly boy names that are now considered girl names and vice versa. It's no surprise that other languages have them too.

Other androgynous names are Avery, Jordan, Stevie, etc.
