Okay, I´ve found NOTHING about this that was in any way helpful to me :(
How do I get my field into those "lines"?
I´ve seen other people do it, why don´t I get it?
"holding down the directional pad and quickly pressing A" made my character go forward and then till one space of soil. First pressing and holding A didn´t have any different effect than just pressing A. Pressing D-Pad and A at the same time didn´t help either.
... Help Q___Q

It's tough at first to get the timing right; I'm in my second summer and I still mess up my irrigation lines sometimes. xD;
Anyway, you'll want to press the A button first. Immediately after you press it, you'll want to start holding down in the direction you want the irrigation line to go. If you start holding down the directional button before the tool animation ends, you're probably too late. It takes some practice, so don't get discouraged.

I'm sorry Jacaranda, I don't mean to repeat what you've just told Serafin, but you didn't mention when to hoe the next square. So here is my full explanation.
Press A to hoe one square. While your character is hoeing, hold the d-pad in the direction you want the furrow to go (you will have to press the d-pad button very quickly after pressing A!). Your character will shift over to the next spot (this is the same "shift over" technique from Wind Bazaar if you played that). WHILE SHE IS PHYSICALLY MOVING OVER, press A again to hoe the next spot; they will be connected.
I hope this helps.

If you live in Bluebell, remember that you can't do the irrigation thingie as you get the farming tools from Rudger. You must wait a few days for him to visit you again and then he will teach you
