Are they really "twin" villages?

The name seems to imply that they're very similar, but from what I've heard...they're not.

I don't just mean in the style of architecture...I've also heard that Konohana is bigger (or at least seems bigger).

Do they have the same amount of land? The same number of buildings? Are the town layouts similar?

Also, what DO the villages have in common? Do they both have town squares? If so, how are those different?

Fraternal twins? Haha.

Both have 6 buildings within the town proper. Shen Lo, Dirka, Kiriku, Nathan/Alisa, and Sage's houses are in separate maps. So depending on whether you want to give those outlying buildings credit, then Konohana has 1 more than Bluebell so it would indeed be bigger. (Sage's house is up in the mountains too so it's hard to count that as Bluebell, though she is gone for Bluebell festivals so someone must consider her a villager there.)

Konohana does not have a central square, it winds along a road. The town layouts are inverted from one another; Konohana you travel south from the mountain road, Bluebell you travel north. Both have a pet/cart shop, an Ucho shop, a cafe and a bulletin board. Apart from that they're very different.

Yeah they don't look alike....I think twin was used as in you have the choice between two towns that are quite close one to another (cause other HM always make it feel as if your town is quite far away from other civilization)

Sage's shop (fixed selection)

Konohana Proper:

Sorry I keep asking questions, but...how do the town halls, cafes, and Ucho shops differ?

The differences between the Ucho shops and the Town halls are only superficial, they sell/do the same things. Though the Ucho shops rarely SELL the exact same things on any given day, but as far as I know it's the same random selection.

Howard's cafe sells Western-style food dishes, and Sona's sells more Asian-type foods.
