What's the Point of the Umbrella?

So....I was in the brother's shop and saw a しもしもアンブレラ, this was on the first day and I had no money to get it either way, so I left it. Now it's the second day, the harvest goddess has just told me about the tunnel, and it's raining outside. Now that the mayor and other dude brought me my cart they have umbrella's. Do they serve a purpose?

As far as I can tell, they are just a novelty. They take up space in your storage later, so I suggest you watch out for the one you like best and only buy one.

Some of the characters will scold you if you're walking in the rain without an umbrella. Ayame will, at least. xD

I see, I bought a blue one just to be safe xD;; luckily that's my favorite color for an umbrella xD;;

When I'm gathering fish it just seems to be in the way, I press A and the umbrella goes away or comes out before I can grab the fish sometimes xD
