The first one is given to you by the mayor of whatever town you live in. You can then rent out larger, stronger horses from the pet shop in either village. Bigger horses can carry heavier carts much easier.
Every horse you have is only a "rental," meaning that if you buy a new horse, your old one is returned to the store.

Basically, but you get to name them..which makes it sad when you rent a new one xD

I actually have a question similar to this, what's the point of the cart, other than storage? Like, what do you do with it?

I think they're white brown and gray, the white being the one given to you at the start of the game.

There's also a darker brown (almost black) color available for Thoroughbred horses. I know brown is available for Dosankos, but I can't remember what the others are...

*edit* Thoroughbreds also come in white, bringing the color list for the breed to White, Brown, and Dark Brown.

*edit 2* Ponies also come in a tan color, in addition to the confirmed white, gray, and brown. Thoroughbreds also come in a reddish brown color.

*edit 3* Dosankos also come in white, in addition to brown. So in list form that's... (leaving two blank spaces under Dosankos since the other horses all come in four colors)

*edit 4* Dosankos also come in gray.

*edit 5* Aaaaaaaaand, the fourth Dosanko color iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis... *drumroll* ... black. Good, now I can go back to having larger horses instead of this puny thoroughbred. >_>

Pony
- white
- gray
- tan
- brown

Thoroughbred
- white
- brown
- mahogony
- black

Dosanko
- white
- gray
- brown
- black

Q: Are the larger horses faster or carry heavier loads? or both?

They carry heavier loads. Supposedly larger/heavier carts weigh down smaller horses (what I heard in another thread), but larger horses are able to carry them more easily, which I'm assuming means faster.

However, the horses that aren't carrying carts seem to go the same speed regardless of size.
