You didn't come off the wrong way. I just like debating with people
There were already seven marriage choices and then one other person you could get events with as Mark. It would have been unfair if there were less options for Mark because you couldn't marry Alisa but the choices are even. If you could marry Alisa then it would have been unfair. Because there would be eight girls/seven boys. Sure it didn't make people happy to get events with her and not be able to marry her. But it is not unfair there wasn't a bonus bachelorette. In fact it actually seems kinda unfair is how Mark got extra events at all even if it didn't lead to marriage.
Yes there is Kai but even so there are more girls in the boy version. And even if they are harder they are still there. I would have preferred if getting married was harder in DS: Cute.
If you marry Gray you don't go anywhere at all. You still live on your own farm XD. But the game just wasn't made to continue after that and that's okay.
They couldn't make the game end if you married anyone. That would not have gone over well. So they added the Mineral Town girls and just didn't let you continue after marring them. They made nine girls that didn't end your game though. DS Cute came after so it was able to improve on a lot of things. I guess Mineral Town marriage was one of those things.

I've been playing Harvest Moon for years, and I can kind of feel the pain here as a girl. There have been marked improvements of you can actually play as a girl and get married. I feel like it is a mixed basket when girls get the short end of the stick. The newer games there are equal marriage choices, but yeah secretly I want a magical guy to seduce and whisk away to live on my farm.
That being said, I would rather take a spouse who contributed to my household than some mythical creature living in my duck pond.

Celia, Muffy, Nami, and Lumina are pretty cool. I mean, there aren't a lot of them, but they have decent personalities.
Rock, Marlin, and Gustafa????
Give me a break. I hated them all.
Feel free to disagree but I was just really disappointed with them.
i agree theyre kinda ugly...

HMDSC was really unfair, if you ask me. What ugly guys, eew...
1. Harvest Moon was originally made for boys, right? Girls came in later, okay? No, I'm not being sexist.
2. It's harder to make good male candidates in my opinion that it is to make good girl candidates.
SI had an awesome cast of bachelorettes AND bachelors if you ask me, but some games are really unfair with the marriage candidates.

I kinda like the guys in the game even though I like the girls better. I just wish they would make a rune factory game for girls with a good group of bachelors. Oceans or Tides of Destiny has a poor group. I'm waiting for a female version of Rune Factory 3 so I can marry Carlos
although the children in that game are pretty creepy...

Well, I wouldn't say it was more boyish but it has that fighting aspect to it so it might appeal to boys more. Lots of girls love the game. Check it out sometime

For SI in particular, it's the boys that get the short end of the stick since one of their candidates isn't marriagable and is essentially trolling them. But for HM in general, that's up for debate. Maybe in the past girls have been getting the short end of the stick, but lately HM has been semi-fair to us with the distribution of candidates. RFToD doesn't really count since RFis just starting to allow a female MC and is in the testing ground to see if it'll do well in sales, is my best guess/assumption.

Hope this thead isn't too dead for me too post but...
Anyone notice that HM is a lot like a harem? Each bachelor/bachelorette has very anime-archetype personalities that cater to a player's taste. Almost every HM game has a moe, tsundere, or bishoujo girl and vice versa for the boys. Given that harem anime series are generally geared toward males (not to mention reverse-harems are still kinda rare in anime) that's probably where the uneven ratio is coming in.
But ToT and AP have really made up for it. Plus, the creators were even generous enough to throw in the Harvest King since males got to marry the Harvest Goddess! And you can't forget the Wizard!
