Grand Bazaar or Sunshine Islands?
I'm really rather surprised at how much love SI is getting, especially since this is the GB board
. I did not like SI, far too complicated and frustrating for my taste. I absolutely hated the sun/water system. You have no control on the weather, you can't refresh the day to change it if you don't like it, like you could in older games. Well you can, if you're willing to refresh two days prior, ugh. So if it rained one day your crops could be dead, very frustrating. I don't enjoy games that frustrate me, I prefer to relax. I know a lot of people complained to Natsume about the crop system (and other stuff) being far too complicated and frustrating and so as a result of those complaints Natsume made GB much less complicated.
So I agree with Basketshooter and Taniyama Mai, my vote also goes to GB. Especially if you're mainly going to be playing the game on a train without access to the internet, which you will need to help you through SI. Unless you're willing to buy the strategy guide (amazon has them) along with the game. But I had the guidebook and still got frustrated with the game and needed the internet for additional help.
But as Taniyama Mai said, it depends on the type of player you are and what you really want out of the game. If you're traveling to/from work/school and need something to de-stress then I'd recommend GB. If you're traveling to/from something boring and need to wake up your brain after listening to a bunch of dull speeches or something then I'd recommend SI.
What are some of your favorite HM games that you've already played and what did you enjoy about them? That could help in figuring out which game you would actually enjoy more. Clearly different people enjoy different games, so depending on what you've liked in the past could help decide which game you'd enjoy next.

i dont know if you've decided yet, but i prefer SI alot more. Alot of ppl need to keep track of their sun/water system for their crops, but i honestly never needed to. None of my crops died unless i kept them on the vine for too long. The only time i ever needed to go onto the UnoT website for was to find out when heart events were and how to activate them. infact, thats how i found out about UnoT. So alot of people say its complicated and fustrating, which it may be, but i didn't find it that much of a challenge.
GrB got boring to me after, like, a week :/
maybe two

Well yea, if you find SI to be so easy, then of coarse you'll find GB boring. :/pshycho wrote:i dont know if you've decided yet, but i prefer SI alot more. Wow, glad I read this thread before posting whether or not I should get this game
I've been playing IoH which I've hated (you may refer to my rant about it in the section for IoH titled IoH versus SI) although I never looked at it from a challenge perspective, maybe I've been too keen on just getting married :S
I wonder now if I should invest in both SI and GB because I do love the character artwork for GB ^_^

Me ether. My goal was to get married(in every HM game, that's really all I go for, unless I have no choice), and I couldn't even do that in ether. The dual health bars, crop mechanics and the like made it too complicated. It lost its fun so I just stopped playing. I even tried to not use crops and just fish, raise animals, and forage but it just got so bad that couldn't do it. Same with TOT and AM>.>pshycho wrote:Taniyama Mai wrote:Well yea, if you find SI to be so easy, then of coarse you'll find GB boring. :/pshycho wrote:i dont know if you've decided yet, but i prefer SI alot more. I was actually going to ask this same question for similar reasons. I've been playing my 3DS during my breaks at works (which between lunch time and a two breaks adds up to just under an hour of time I get to burn for myself) and kind of want some more laid back than Samurai Warriors, which I've now beaten.
I disliked IoH, least favorite of the series, so I never intended to get Sunshine Islands. I didn't care for the cast and spent all my time fishing since it was so much more reliable for money, and it made marrying that one fisherman guy a breeze. I had really rotten luck with farming crops.
I also thought the village was big and empty. Not because their weren't people, everything was just too spread out and the graphics were kind of bland aside from the characters themselves.
It looks like I'll be getting Grand Bizarre, even if only for the new cast and a manageable crop system.
