Telling posters not to revive old topics

I notice it happening a lot, usually with new members.

My question is, should I post and tell them not to? I feel like it's more the mods' responsibility, but it seems okay for regular members to tell them. I'm fine with that, I just don't want it to look like I'm just trying to raise my post count.

Normally I just let someone else tell them (it tends to be someone who already has over 2000 posts, so it doesn't seem to matter so much if they get extra posts).

I guess I just want to know if there's any specific rule or...protocol in this type of situation.

The thing to do is simply report it. The mods will take care of it from there, and remind them of the rules if needed.

What's wrong with reviving an old topic if new people can find new things to add to it?

Personally, I think it's silly; but rules are rules, and you have to follow them no matter what your opinion is.
