About rivals

So I was on the Headscratchers page on TV Tropes and somebody asked 'What's the point of having rivals, if they won't get married?' What is this? They don't get married if you trigger the rival events? Really? I didn't see anything like that on the site?

Nope, they never get married. Here's the link that says so::

It sucks that they never get married so I didn't even bother trying to activate all of them like I normally do

It sounds like they WERE going to have rival marriages, but ran out of steam before they finished........or lost interest in it.

Oh I didn't see that. /stupid
So there's no point in seeing the rival events? Aw :'( I'm so disappointed I don't even have any words.

Heh, actually I think they're even worse than useless...because yeah they don't get married, but if do you see them all, they still prevent you from marrying the candidate involved yourself. Sheesh.

Uh... no? You can still marry them, even after you see all four events. Isn't that what it says here?

Really? Wow, I could've sworn I read somewhere around here that you couldn't. Okay, then. *shrug* ^_^

This game along with Twin Villages kind of confuses me. Both games give you the impression that there are rivals but really there aren't. Eh, I'm happy either way, to me makes everyone fair game.

Trillium you probably did read it somewhere. Before the game came out many people (including myself) had heard from somewhere that even though they didn't get married, you could not marry rivals if you got all of their events. Luckily it was proven not true a long time ago. But it seemed pretty legit when I first heard about it.

It's like they are slowly removing rivals little by little. First getting rid of the marriage, then getting rid of the structured events, next there won't be any implications of rivals at all .

Gah if that happens I'll be writing several very stern letters to the developers. Only reason I haven't already put down this game due to the absence of rivals marrying is that I love the rest of the game too much.

Yup, and this is part of the reason I am not continuing on with Harvest Moon or Pokemon. The systems are getting nuts as well as the games. Also, things are getting way too easy to obtain things.
