Agreed. I mean, I imagine tons of people complained when the GBA came out, or the DS. They were expensive, etc and refused to buy a new system. But now many of those people have the new consoles just so they can keep playing their games.Googaboga wrote:Yeah they gotta stop sometime. I never like moving on to a new console. Just like with the Wii I used my Gamecube for ages before using the Wii for Gamecube games. I'm sure by the time this comes out in English the 3DS will be more mainstream.
But technology advances. I imagine this upcoming holiday season will be the last holiday season with new DS games. Next year it'll all be 3DS (and other stuff). They have to transition out at one point, and they've made it a little easier by having the 3DS backwards compatible. It sucks having to buy a new handheld, but well, sometimes it's for the best in the end.
Pokemon will definitely be on the 3DS. Vastly too popular to just skip a handheld. I think Pokemon actually has tons of potential for 3D what with all the landscapes, cityscapes, and battles that happen.SeaBean wrote:I don't think they would stop making DS games any time soon... Some games just aren't meant for 3D. Like Pokemon, or something.
As for RF4 and the 3DS; I'll be waiting. I bought my DS about a year or two after it came out. I'm waiting for price drops and a reasonable amount of games for the 3DS that I want. I probably won't get the handheld for another year. If it looks like the games, like RF4, are going to be rare and hard to get, I might get the game first just so I don't have to hunt it down later, but for the most part, just going to wait it out for the price drops, the sales, etc.
And here's something else to chew on.
One of the reasons new systems are developed is to allow the production of more sophisticated games.
I mean if you look at the original Gameboy from way back with it's simple black and white graphics and look at the games the systems of today can put out. Would you really say you would prefer that all future games were made for the older system, when the new one has greater potential.
While the 3DS's 3D feature may not seem like a huge step forward, the system overall has the potential to play more powerful and complex games then the DS could handle. So even if you don't like the gimmick, there are still tons more features the 3DS has that make it superior to the DS.

While I agree that Nintendo often updates their consoles primarily for monetary purposes (XL was not needed, period. You can debate about others, but XL was painfully uneeded.), I do think that updating consoles is important...they just need to let the time gaps be more thicker in between.
Also, I have a feeling that Pokemon is going to be FANTASTIC on 3D. Or at least, I hope so. Lots of potential there.

They'll probably go down eventually, but I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope.Okwm wrote:The 3DS games around here are like 40-50 bucks new.
It's also inflation. What cost a penny 50 years ago now costs like...a quarter or something. You notice it more as you start getting into the bigger things (for instance, I found out that like...5 years ago a sewage pump cost about $2000 and now it costs about $10,000). It sucks, yeah, but well, it's happening.
Oooooo 10-20 dollar difference.
I never scooped out the price for 3DS games, but I know new PS3 games cost $60. Wii games range from 30-40 (so do DS games) from my experience. I don't have an Xbox, so I don't know about those. I try to buy my PS3 games pre owned, but if I know a game isn't going to be popular I wait for price drops. Hell, I got Resonance of Fate new for $20. Just gotta wait for Star Ocean 4 now, kekeke.
