How do I catch a Bonito?

I know, Raul's shop/M. windmill and a stormy day - I'm trying it on a summer day with hurricane... I just don't know what to do with the rods... I already caught a Tuna with a short rod, when I cast it to medium, but what about the Bonito? Does the short rod have to go to short or medium???
