Where does the love for AP come from?

I think it is just a personal preference thing. Some people don't like the longer time in AP and some don't like the shorter time in ToT. I think ToT and AP both have flaws. It was like they tried to fix the flaws from ToT in AP, but went a little too far instead. For example, in ToT, I hated how little stamina I had, how crops were worth next to nothing (made all my money in the mine which was a lot of effort because of the gases in there), I think the time moved a little too fast. In AP, they slowed the time which is too slow (I don't mind that much), they made crops worth more but everything else worth less, I thought the stamina was better, the characters weren't as social as the first came, but family life was a little more fun. This is just my opinion, though. Like I said, I think it's mostly just a preference thing.
AP isn't my favorite game, but I do like it...
AP can be a fun game, but it does have it's flaws. I agree that the town feels lifelesss, and that the characters are robotic. It annoyed me to see Luna and Candace walk in front of their shop at the exact same time like the do every single day... I don't know why they did it that way, but it makes you feel like you're living in a ghost town. But befriending all the characters and learnng about them through events is fun.
I don't mind how slow the passage of time could be. Sometimes it drove me nuts if I was trying to activate an event at a certain time, but I loved that I could mine for a long period of time. People say fishing should be what saves a slow clock, but mining is even better. Plus, you don't feel rushed when you're trying to make it from one end of a large island to the other.
That's another thing people hate, the large island. I love it. Yes, it can take a while when you're on foot going from one area to the other, but you can ride every animal, people! It's easy to buy an animal early on in the game. I also like how I don't feel claustrophobic at any time. I mainly play console HM games, and often I find the villages too small, especially in console games. (GrB for example. >>)
Also, you can finally put your lazy husband/wife to work!

You aren't the only one who doesn't like AP, I also don't like it either. I tried so many times to get into it, but I just can't, everything in that game is just off, and to be honest, I was quite dissapointed in it. Now, it isn't the worst one I've played, it has its moments, but overall, the game doesn't have my recommendation :/

I like AP a lot for a couple of reasons. However, it is not my favorite. 64 is my favorite because the characters had a lot of depth to them. It was also the first Harvest Moon game I ever played so it's a bit nostalgic. BUT, I do think AP is a very good game too. These are the reasons why I enjoy AP:
1. You and your spouse kiss more than 1 time in the whole flipping game.
2. You can go on walks with your spouse, kids, or animals.
3. You can have two kids and choose the gender.
4. You can ride animals such as a goat or cow which I find funny.
5. You can take photographs.
6. You have a wide variety of options for pets.
Things I dislike:
1. Most the the festivals are boring.
2. It does feel like you're in a ghost town.
3. The slow time can be annoying when you're waiting on certain events.
There are other aspects I like too, but I named a couple.

AP is really fun if you can get into it... I think when I bought it (it was summer vacation dur) I played for a week for 11+ hours a day
Then it got boring. Once it got boring I would put the disk in and play for half a day and then pur another game in D:
But it was fun, while it lasted.
ToT was more challenging because the day went by faster. But in ToT I actually had a little larvae child with Gill. With Gale, I haven't even triggered the "congrats on gettin funky, you're preggers!" scene.

For me, it's a whole variety of reasons.
Firstly, I'm a bit of a completionist and I wanted to take care of the Bells and the Summoning as soon as I could.
Secondly, the number of interesting people in the game. My current BFF is Luna and I really, really like her. My current spouse is teh Wiz. I can't mention him without going all "
"
Thirdly, the after-marriage life. It's actually quite fun. Just seeing your 2 kids grow up is just so special. I seriously dote on those 2.
Fourthly, the festivals. I love them a lot, mainly the date festivals. My favourite date festival is Starry Night. At the end of the last one I went to, my second kid was all like "It's over already? TT_TT" Poor Jamie. I knew he'd take after me in one way or another.
Finally, this game can keep me absorbed for quite a while. Even longer than Epic Mickey (I prefer games that are exciting all the way through).
In my opinion, this game is a very good game and I love it very much. I've played Harvest Moon since December 2008, so I'm sort of a hardcore player. Sure sure, it's got a flaw or 2, but I love it a lot.
I'd give this game a 9/10.

AP would've been a great game if they fixed these three issues:
1)Time goes by a little too slow as people have already said.
2)The goddamn framerate! There are bigger games out there that don't chug yet somehow your framerate dies while running through a long field of nothing. It's abysmal and embarrassing.
3)Camera, the freaking camera! Since it's always fixed, I get a nice view of the GROUND! When are we going to have another Harvest Moon where it's third person and the second analog is camera control?
At this point I'm starting to give up. Marvelous doesn't care about the series anymore, they just don't.

If they went "A Wonderful Life" & "DS/Cute" on us AGAIN, then I'd be inclined to agree with you on this point.Dragoonwing wrote:At this point I'm starting to give up. Marvelous doesn't care about the series anymore, they just don't.[/color][/b]
Otherwise, I think they actually put in quite a bit of effort in this case.
They just went too far in fixing some of ToT's issues and had to compensate and sacrifice other things to allow some of the more compelling options of AP.
