Actually it's both.
Gamestop ships games on the day before they release them.
They usually get them in their stores before the release date.
But are required not to sell them till said date.

Mine shipped a while ago. It should be here tomorrow. I'm a happy panda.

with most games, yah stores tend to get the game in stock before the release date. but with harvest moon, in the past releases at least, the games dont ship from the warehouse to the store until the actual release date. so you end up having a few people getting the games on the release date, then everyone else waiting an extra day or three for their local stores to get them in, freaking out, calling the store every hour, waiting for the store to get their ups shipment, then waiting for them to get around to opening their boxes to sell.....freaking out on the forum, swearing never to buy a natsume game again, vowing not to buy from gamestop again, drama drama. fun times~

My game is going to be shipped today (I hope). The status is still "processing". I live in Europe, so probably I will get it on Monday next week. DHL is off on weekends *sigh*

Oh I envy you guys! I wish I could get mine today but I'll have to wait a little bit before I do... Hopefully its worth the wait

Historically, I've never gotten texts or calls for Harvest Moon pre-orders. In fact the last few games I've pre-ordered from GameStop, I haven't received any confirmation that I'd done so and no notifications of their availability

Well today is the day and after waking up at 6am and thinking about it: I couldn't go back to sleep XD I am gonna head up to my gamestop around 12ish to see if they have it there. If not, I also had to order one for my boyfriend's sister and if her's arrives first since I ordered it from Natsume...then it shall become mine <3

I woke up around 6:30
I'll be heading to the mall at 9:45
GameStop opens at 10
and if they haven't received their shipment for the day, I shall wait until noon at the latest, then complain to GameStop corporate offices

Checked my email this morning and saw that I got an email from Gamestop. It says it should arrive at my house today. So excited.

Yup, I got the email as well, but since I didn't have enough money I didn't order any special shipping... so it will probably be a while. I leave for vacation Friday, so it will be so long!!
