Is there a way to save the game without going to sleep?

No.

(At least that's what I was told X3)

GrB was the same way. You have to go to sleep if you want to save.

No. My friend has the game and she says that you can't save until you go to bed.

The other alternative (but pretty much still the same) is sleeping at the town hall of either town.
Same options as sleeping at home, but maybe sleeping in the town hall/inn has advantages?

Yes? Ask the mayor? It's like a piece of paper thing, like making a reservation? I stumbled on it but I don't use it...

I really hate this save system. I stop playing a lot during the day and I can't find 20 min. before school to play through a whole day! Does anyone know if there's a pause screen? Iv'e tried everything. The way to pause it for me is to talk to someone, catch a bug, or to go to the shipping bin...

Just close the lid on your DS and it'll pause. :)

The save system is a huge freakin' bummer. Why is that game makers tend to adds lots of cool new features but forget/replace the perfectly good ones that already existed?

The developers made an incredibly stupid choice.

Opening your request screen pauses the game I believe... But I also miss being able to save anytime.

Opening up any menu will pause the game. I have this same issue during school with only a few minutes to play in between classes so I just close my DS and that keeps it in power save mode and should be fine for the day :)

Well... I am certainly no Programmer.. so I can not speak with complete certainty on this matter... But it is possible that they were not just making a poor decision. The Cartridge can only hold so much space... so they can not add an infinite amount of new Features without sacrificing some others! Saving anywhere at anytime and making the game remember those things is sort of making the game need to be able to do more. I believe something of this nature occurred in Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask? But again.. I am no expert on this topic... so that may not be their exact reason for doing this. But it is most certainly a possibility. So... umm.. Even though I will agree with you one hundred percent that it is a Rather inconvenient saving system for many people... It may also be part of why they can try out many new and interesting game features! :lala:

But changing something like that doesn't take up THAT much space. :/

I think it's to prevent "cheating". You could just save before cooking festivals until you get a good team or a crappy opposing one, or something like that.

I'm more pissed at the recent exclusion [it started in IoH iirc] of being able to save a single game in multiple files so I can be a pimp, save before proposing, and have one file with person a as a wife/husband, another with person b, and so on.
