It's very random. I m on losing streak since hitting yr 2 despite using 5 star dishes. Seeing bluebell fielding monster like howard, laney and Jessica makes the lil cook in me wilt.
Now I m plotting to steal laney despite originally intending to marry reina. *mwueheheheh*

XD I just won my dessert theme by using the fruit parfait I bought from howard LOL! I got a '...' but Nori had a heart. ( I'm from Konohana )
Sheng was in my theme too. But he had a music icon. It was really a close call because both team had a heart, a music icon, and a '...' icon @_@

I won 6/7 so far.
In Spring I used ingredients the major brought. I won 3/4 and only lose the dessert theme. I got wine when I won and cabbage seeds when lost.
In Summer I won 3/3 so far.
- Salad: I bring Potato salad (3 stars)
- Soup: Radish soup (3.5 stars)
- Main dish: Omelet (3.5 stars)
And the reward I got is Mythill
I'm living in Konohana.

Okay, well I just lost my main dish summer festival... Again, I just watched... My town got steamrolled... It was Ash, Cheryl, and Georgia... Ash and Cheryl entered failed dishes and Georgia got a music note... The other town was Nori, Yun, and Hiro... Nori, of course, got a heart bubble... Although, I was surprised Yun didn't get a heart bubble... Her and Hiro got music notes... I got onion seeds for watching... And I want to make a correction on the friendship meter... You gain 1/8 of a heart if your village lost when you watch, not 1/4... It just filled up to 1/4 on the fourth heart and it started to fill up that heart when I lost the soup festival... I'm going to enter a failed dish for teh lulz in the dessert festival...

Okay, let me see if I got any better... *Check assets*
Won 5/16. Can anyone beat my record? (that is, if you are not losing intentionally)

Eh, I'm entering a failed dish because I accidentally made one and was hoping Mako would post a request for a failed dish... Since I don't think that's gonna happen, I'll just enter it in the dessert festival... I assume that if Mako hasn't made a request for a failed dish by then, then I don't think he will for the season... And I got so many in the Spring...

Anyway, some info, I entered a 5-star pudding, but didn't get a
I think you need to enter a 5-star dish with 4 ingredients or more counting the utensil (or 4-star with 5 ingredients, 3-star with 6), since pudding only have 3 ingredients.

^Ah okay... I will definitely keep that in mind... Thanks for the info Lucaspontes... I might try for the fall festivals... I just wanted to see what it would be like to watch and see if you could still win stuff, and well, I can definitely confirm that you do... I just wish my village won once so I could share what happens when you watch and your village wins...

so, i think how elaborate the recipe is and how rare the ingredients are counts towards the worth of the dish. looking at the lists, like here
http://fogu.com/hm10/activities/dessert_recipes.php, the average price for the dishes can be assumed to match its elaborateness/rarity.
what i mean is, if you enter a sponge cake as dessert, since it's very basic with easy ingredients and sells for cheap, you probably won't get much out of it. now i entered a honey pudding last dessert festival and got a heart, using a 4 star egg, 5 star milk and don't remember the rank of my summer honey.
another contest i entered a tempura bowl, which is tempura (i made with oil, flour, and i think an egg or milk? plus a fish that i fished myself) mixed with cooked rice. it amounts to a bunch of ingredients, most of which had high ranks, and is pretty elaborate. it also sells for a good average price, 924g at the highest rank. i got a heart for that one.
so, what do you think? do you think the amount of ingredients, the ingredients' rarity and the selling price of the dish count towards your score in the food festival?

The people that can't cook in Bluebell are Cam, Cheryl, and Georgia.
I almost lost AGAIN because Georgia entered a failed dish, but Howard got a

so all is okay.
I wish the people who suck at cooking will stop joining, seriously.

Same here... Although Georgia did get a music note in the last festival for me... So far, it seems like Bluebell has more bad cooks and less good cooks than Konohana...

Hmm... That could also be the deciding factor... When I try in the fall, I'll see if I can enter a low selling 4 ingredient dish and see if it gets a heart... (Well, using high quality ingredients of course...) But yeah, I can believe that the selling price could help determine whether a dish gets a heart bubble... I may also try a 3 or 2 ingredient dish that just sells for a whole bunch and see if that can get a heart bubble...

I'm experiencing the opposite of this one. I live in Konohana and there are less good cooks there.
I'd say many average cooks but few Bad and great ones.
I'm seeing a lot of hearts in Bluebell; Howard, Ash, Laney and Jessica.
But they also have many bad cooks; Cam, Georgia, Enrique, Cheryl

Woah, Ash can enter heart dishes? Huh, I thought it was just Cam... But yeah, Jessica has consistently given me music notes, so I find her to be one of Bluebell's decent cooks... Same with Eileen... Laney got me ellipses and music notes...
As for Konohana, the killer for me seems to be Nori... She's always entered heart dishes... Yun, I heard, is pretty good... She got a music note when she entered in the most recent one for me, but I'm sure she can whip up a heart dish easily... The only bad cooks I know of in Konohana are Ying and Kana... Maybe Raul, if he enters...

Yes, Ash enters heart dishes and sometimes music notes. Never saw him got ellipses on my file.
Oh and i forgot Eileen. She's also getting hearts on me.
It's weird though, I remember Enrique got a heart once. But the next cooking festival, he entered a failed dish.
Almost all of the villagers in Konohana are average; ellipses and music notes.
And because of this, I'm going to transfer to Bluebelle the next year =3
