Think of it like this... Yuki can mean courage in Japanese, and I guess that's what the male-version of the name could be based of off... Though I like to romanize it as Yuuki... But yeah, when people see Yuki, they think of a girl's name or maybe they think of the word for "snow" and think it has a "feminine" ring to it...

I'm not too familiar with the term, but from what I've been seeing, it seems to be the term used for non-Japanese/Asian people who are really into Japanese/Asian culture, but mainly for anime... (I could be wrong though...)

Haha a weeaboo is a person who's obsessed with Japan and thinks it's the most awesome place ever and talks in broken Japanese as in saying "That puppy is so Kawaii desu!" An Anime Otaku, or a Harvest Moon Otaku which I am both is just someone who really love the thing, so in the case Harvest Moon or Anime.

And GFAQ is right about weeaboo. Although it has a lot of negative connotations with anime fans. They usually are implying that you are the type to live on ramen, watch anime as often as humanly possible, hate dubs on principle, and spout random japanese like "baka" "kawaii" and other little catch phrases like that.
I find the whole argument about it tiring... people get so upset about such small things..

I wonder if I'd count as a weeaboo even though I'm asian but not Japanese.. Well my mother is always on my case about how I shouldn't be listening or even looking at other asian cultures stuff because she thinks ours are the best >.> But Hiro with facial hair is interesting.. I still feel a little violated though, with the picture and talking to a person thats over 18 and a male....

Yeah, forgive me for that one. I choose the meaning "Snow" because that was the first one that I learned of. Plus, chickens are usually portrayed as white, so my name's kind of like saying "a chicken as white as snow" (Even though I'm ethnically Asian *shot*) .
Though "Chicken Yuuki" = "Chicken Courage" almost sounds like an amusing oxymoron.

You... do know that "otaku" isn't a word for a regular fan, but more for the sort of obsessed freaks (for anime, it's more like the ones who buy pillows with their anime characters printed on them looking all iyaaan ///), and is actually really despective, right? It's not limited to anime, either, you can be an otaku of many things, but... it's not exactly the sort of thing you wanna call yourself all cheerfully.
Yeah well weeaboo's kind of creep me out.... I know proper Japanese, I'm still learning. I'm not the weeaboo who just picks up a few words and use them randomly like, "Oh mai « Harvest Goddess » baka baka baka" And then they'd be like um Miss what language are you speaking? Embarrasing...
If you search the meaning in Japanese, Otaku means being obsessed with something, so yes I guess buying merchandise. Weeaboo is worse than otaku, otaku is more like just being obsessed with it, weeaboo is like being hardcore I'll die for it.

I slip up sometimes with that sort of thing, and I'm trying to learn Japanese as well, but I'm not really, reeally obsessed. I just love the culture, food, stuff, etc, etc.

I really don't like my facial hair. I'm just lazy. I generally portray art of myself WITHOUT it.
Well, "Otaku" is sort of becoming one of those badge words typically used in a negative light but is taken as a more objective term but those who claim themselves as much.
And I think an "American Otaku" has much less a negative connotation as a "Japanese/Native" Otaku.
Frankly, I see "Weeaboo" as the western equivalent of what the Japanese perceive as an "Otaku".
Pfft, no one will be shunned here, because Harvest Moon fans are awesome like that.
I'm the same way, slowly learning the language, love most of the food (hate octopus, I'm sorry ), and the culture is very interesting as well.
I can't really be an otaku because I.. just can't seem to get obsessed about stuff. I'll be nuts about something for a few months and then I'll get distracted by the next shiny.
