Is Ying a boy or a girl?

The game sprite looks like a girl, but the game portrait looks like a boy. Which is it?

are you kidding? She's only the cutest little girl EVER! Her hair is long, and in a braid in the back of her head if that's why.

Heh. ^_^ Yeah, Ying's definitely a girl.

Even aside from the stereotypically-girly stuff like the long hair, pink dress (which I don't blame you for missing, you really would have to press the R button when talking to her to see it well), and stuffed panda bear - her grandmother Yun and anybody else who talks about Ying (Rahi, mostly) refers to her as a girl. ^_^

Rahi seems to have a bit of a crush on her, though so far I haven't seen it requited much. Poor Rahi. ^_^

I'm serious. I didn't even know you can remove the text box to see the rest of the character. Plus, I only met her like once and just started the game.

Yep, it's something they added over from RF3, like the request board. It's a really neat thing to see the full picture of the character. Just press the R shoulder button while you are talking to them and the text box will disappear.
