I may have misunderstood it, but the way I read it was that he was sort of being playful with you. Dirk makes jokes and lightly teases you a lot ("You forgot it was my birthday didn't you?? Haha, I'm just kidding."). The way he says your name with a lot of dots just before, and laughs afterwards, makes it sound to me like he wanted to say something sweet but got embarressed and then tried to cover it up by being macho-immature-silly. After marriage he does open up more and you see underneath the 'dude, man, etc' talk and jokes he does seem to be a somewhat shy and sensitive person. ('I use to be so lonely before we married..', 'I'm not tired anymore... It did still strike me as odd though. He's never made a sexist remark like that before even as a joke, at least in his dialogue from this game. I never played GB though so maybe I'm misreading his personality. It is worth noting too that he talks about Kana and him chatting and hanging out in his dates sometimes; maybe since Kana is a reverse-proposal Dirk's worried Kana would rip on him if he found out a girl proposed to him? I don't know bro-ettiquette.

Maybe, but even if it's done in a playful way, it's just sexist. It's still, well, no way a /girl/ can propose to a /guy/!!1, and it really annoys me. But I see not everyone's like that, which greatly pleases me. That's why I love the Harvest King's proposal scene in AP. He doesn't care about petty things like gender roles, he just lets you be the one to propose. <3
It would have been really nice if some of the bachelorettes had reverse proposals. I might be more inclined to marry them. Reina is still cute though.
