Question about treats

Can you actually feed a horse treat to your horse or is this meant for another animal? Whenever I'm close enough to climb on it, the treat just gets tossed away by my character. The hit box for brushing the horse isn't that obscure. Not that either action are particularly important. I'm told you don't really need to take of your horse.

You feed it treats like you give items to wild animals... Just toss them as close as you can to the horse and it'll go to it and eat it... But yeah, there's really no point since the horse doesn't have a friendship meter at all despite it getting a heart bubble if you brush it or ride it... (Or feed it treats for that matter...)

I don't suppose you can feed them to your other animals, can you?

I don't think so... The crackers that Cheryl sells are mainly for your other animals... (Pets could be included... I'm not sure...)

Well, I just tried it and you're right, it doesn't work with the other animals. I just can't give it to them and they won't pick it up like the horse. Thanks for the help.

No problem... Thanks for testing it out though... If you have those special crackers that Cheryl sells (The Grain, Fish, and the other type of special cracker...), then if you could find out which animal likes the Fish cracker, that would be really helpful... I assume the grain cracker goes to the cow and maybe the sheep and alpaca, the other type of cracker to the chicken, and the fish cracker to the pets minus the horse... (Or to the owl specifically, although the owl has the owl treat, so I'm skeptical about that...)

I'm afraid I'm not that far yet. I think you have to be in year 2 or 3 to be able to buy fish crackers? I'm still at my first summer. I think the other special cracker is the vegetable cracker. I'll try it out with the other crackers when I get to it. Logically, I think you should be able to feed fish crackers to chickens since they're omnivorous irl, but sometimes Harvest Moon doesn't really follow logic. It can be touchy that way.

^Ah, you're right about the fish cracker... Although the veggie cracker (That was the one that I was missing the name off...) starts selling in the fall of year 1... I'm there now, so the next time I play the game, I'll see who I can feed it to... Although I don't have a sheep or an alpaca... Once I get to the winter, I'll see who I can feed the grain cracker to...

Just wanted to add that the crackers are only to livestock, not to pets. Suposedly, they make your animal produce twice the ammount. But I am not sure if this is true, since I don't know wich cracker goes to wich animal...

That's good to know, thanks. I thought it boosted their heart meter. I'm guessing you have to feed them one day and you get the results on the next?

I have not had any luck getting treats to produce extra products. Hoping for a guide on treats soon

I dunno, I am scared of those crackers. I remember that, in game, they said that it wasn't good to give them too much, so I was thinking about giving them like... 1 a week... But that was at the start of the game, so I just dropped the idea (my money D=). It would be good to get a bunch of people and go testing it out, like, one give fish crackers, another give vegetable and so on. We would find out wich animal like what.

Well, I hope Jessica only says that for flavor. Well, since I have a lot of money(I hate that you can only buy one expansion per season!

) I can try it out with normal and veggie crackers as soon as fall comes. I have about a day or two until it comes.
On an unrelated note, how many times do you actually have to play with your pets to get any effect? I throw the bell and bone several times, but it keeps showing hearts...

The fish crackers are supposed to be fed to your Owl, I believe. When I bought my owl is when the fish crackers started showing up for me. The only treats I've seen so far are the carrot crackers(Horse treats), fish crackers(Owl food), and then the round like treats that are for the cows/sheep/and chickens. I only bought the normal treats before though, I never bothered to buy the vegetarian treats or the other kinds offered. Too expensive, and I didn't feel like they had that much of an effect when I gave them to my animals.

Playing with their toys only serves to raise their heart level. It's their heart level that affects how many animals they can take care of. For the longest time I thought it was like Grand Bazaar and was waiting to see the "level up" pop up above their heads but it never happened.
