Yup. Gifted bugs and bugs you have stored do not count toward your total.

Not long at all, actually. I just kept gifting him out the wazoo with Roasted Mushrooms.

Can you put multiple greenhouses on the same plot of land? I would like to build three more but I was curious if there was a limit.

Supposedly if you befriend you eventually they will give you some gifts (mostly cheap forageables).
For sure if you befriend them they unlock more 'versions' of animals to meet. For example, I befriended the green/brown duck and now I sometimes see a white duck as well. And I befriended the orange boar and now I find a black boar sometimes. And also with the bear - befriend the brown bear and you'll start seeing a black one around. You build friendships with the different-colored animals separately.

to my knowledge they dont celebrate any of the same giving festivals as the village. I tried giving them flowers during spring one time for the flower festival thing and aaron gave me a frowney face.
