oh, haha well the mail and the internet wont keep you from staying up to date.
Yeah, I have the plushie too, and i like it, but it looked bigger on the website, hehe.
I wish I knew how to fix the issue. I have a small theory that the freezing might, might, might be caused because of people whom have downloaded many-a-games and add-ons onto their 3ds. Kinda how games on computers go slowly if you have a lot of programs on them and not a lot of ram space? idk what to think, but im curious.

Mine did it too, but not until Spring 20. Like with alot of what I'm reading it was when switching areas. I had the 3D off but I was cleaning while playing and my system had been on for hours at the time AND plugged in. My 3DS has been to Afghanistan but never came out on the road with me and was well protected from day one. The most damage it could have gotten there is some extra dust inside.

Mine froze up last week, but that's the only time it's happened. It does lag a LOT though ^^'

Oh well. I love the game, so I will continue to play it. I'm still glad I waited for the 3DS version. I'll take higher quality graphics any day. ...Even if I have to suffer through some glitches.
Actually, the graphics aren't of higher quality. I have both the versions, and the graphics are worse on the 3DS. Everything is too bright and the lines get blurred and look too ... sun spotty if you guys know what I mean. The dialouge box is also more hazy, the items dont look as sharp, and the though i have'nt played far enough for a freeze , it does lag here and there...

I don't think it has anything to do with extra downloaded programs. I have no extra downloaded programs and never have anything running in the background but I still experience regular freezing.

Well, went ahead and got it for my 3DS, and though I just started, already getting the slowdown/lag.

No freezing yet but haven't played long at all, like I said. And in reply to the reply to my earlier post, I know that there aren't a huge number of reports here, but between here and GameFaqs the proportion of people having problems does seem very high.
A shame, as the game is otherwise very nice so far. One of the prettiest opening sequences I've seen for any game, too. Very nicely done.

Okay, time for a debug session. As a game dev, I'm very good at rooting out bugs, both in my own games and in others. The freezing in the 3ds game is multipart and rare. In fact, everything must be just right to trigger it. The exact cause is not known, but if you guys can start keeping track, I'll narrow it down and let you all know how to avoid triggering it. Please comment on each of the following suspect causes so we can start narrowing down. The two top theories are excessive AI processing slows game to a freeze forced by the system to prevent recursive errors from ripping things to shreds. The second is that some combination of forest life throws a memory exception.
#1) The bug happens when loading some mountain areas, excluding the one closest to each town (if you have an exception to this please post it)
*all of my crashes match this
1 person has had the petting game freeze, this may or may not be related
Both areas with petting and mountain zone may contain a large number of animals, the AI controlling these may put a strain on the system.
#2) Reproducing the bug on the same day at the same time is not easy to do.
*I have yet to retrigger the bug
#3) Riding the horse and cart increases the chance of the bug triggering.
*3 of 4 crashes in 3 months fit this
#4) Having animals out during the day on your farm increases the bug (please confirm or deny this)
*all of my crashes match this
#5) Your character is not wearing the kono outfit (confirm or deny this)
*all of my crashes match this
#6) Your character is female(confirm or deny this)
*all of my crashes match this
#7) It is sunny but going to rain later that day(confirm or deny this)
*all of my crashes match this
#8) 3DS playing the DS does NOT have this problem(confirm or deny this)
#9) DS on DS does NOT have this problem(confirm or deny this)
As for the itty bitty lag, that seems to be a result of the grid system processing. I suspect a bit of sloppy CA is to blame, but really it's not enough to be an issue.

#1) TRUE. The bug has only happened to me when going deeper into the mountains from either side. Usually from bluebell1->bluebell2 or from kono1->kono2, and has happened from kono2->kono3.
#2) FALSE. The bug triggered on day 2 at around 4:58 (if my memory is correct) while going from either kono1->kono2 or kono2->kono3. I forget which, but it was the same spot and same time both times.
#3) Probably true, but the game seems to freeze either way.
#4) Need to test this. Not sure.
#5) TRUE. My char is from bluebell.
#6) TRUE.
#7) FALSE. It has happened on sunny days multiple times
#8) no comment
#9) no comment
Hope that helps. Additionally, my game has crashed at almost every time of day, except late at night. Any other variables I should test? Maybe I'll make a file in slot 2 and see if playing in konohana is affected.

I've been having this problem too. I can say my character is a girl in Bluebell. It mostly happens when traveling through the mountain. I usually don't travel without my horse. I usually have my animals outside too. The biggest thing I have noticed is it only seems to happen when my 3ds has been on for a few hours, whether I am playing or not. If I restart it then I can play again normally for another few hours.

It may very well be a memory leak that builds up. If this is the case, the frequency that a player activated the leak source would determine how long they could play before a memory error would cause a freeze. Since you are using heavy animal use, may I ask how often you ship goods, pet animals, give gifts and talk to towns folk, visit the quest board, complete quests, collect critters and go hand fishing? Would you also be so kind as to make note of weather conditions the next time it happens? Thanks so much xD

Ooh! Ooh!
I have some news to report too!
When it freezes, my 3DS is usually really hot.
So, I tried to keep it cool as I could while I played this time.
It didn't freeze for 6 hours. D:
And it STILL didn't freeze yet.

I ship goods at least once a day, sometimes two
Pet animals once a day, I have 5 currently
Give gifts to two people almost everyday
Talk to about half of the total towns people everyday
Visit the quest board every day
Complete about one quest a day sometimes 2
Collect critters sometimes, not often
Usually collect fish everyday, sometimes 12 or more
I had a freeze today. I started playing at 12pm until about 12 40pm. I then shut my 3ds. I started playing again around 3 30ish and it froze maybe 10 minutes later or less. It was a sunny day though I'm not sure about the other times.

Hello!! I have actually intensively studied these glitches so if you could be so kind answer the following when the glitch happened:
Did you put your game to sleep (closing the ds) before the glitch happened?
Did you do the petting game with your pets that day?
Did you go to the mountains before hand but only to the first screen? (closest to the village)
Did you purchase an animal or anything from a store? (if yes please note which one)
Did a cutscene occur that day?
Thank you! I would give more information but I have written up a 5 page report so far. I've been in touch with Natsume on the situation. I have found however the following are unrelated:
The glitch during the petting game. That is a Nintendo glitch and tells you go contact customer support on the bottom screen.
3D/Wifi/Brightness on or off (or low)
Running straight through the mountains
Time playing the 3DS
Trouble loading the screen (it freezes before any loading occurs except for one time)
The town you are in (freezing occurs in both)
Riding your horse
I have been able to replicate the glitch over and over again. Including on the same day three times over!! So also to respond to the guy above:
#1) True
#2) False I've replicated it on the same day.
#3) I've made the same amount of crashes with walking.
#4) Nope almost half the crashes my animals were inside.
#5) That does make since. Most characters that crash are from Bluebell so they wouldn't be wearing it in the first place. Second I made sure to place in Konohana and crash it.
#6) Cannot deny or confirm.
#7) False! It was either all sunny or all rainy for me.
#8&9) Of course the DS version doesn't have it, or we would have heard the complaint.
I think it is caused by a series of events happening before you reach the mountains. Loading the level is not the issue it is actually a glitch. I actually play video games to find glitches so I know the difference between a crash due to loading or not. I believe you have to do something before heading to the mountains to cause it to crash. When I ran there in the morning back and forth between each screen I couldn't get it to happen. So when you replay the game and nothing happens you did something a little different than you did the time before. So if you could try to remember what you did that day that you may have done differently this would help.

No to all your questions. D:
It just happens every once in a while.
Not every few days, but every few days in real life.
