SakuraMota wrote:BtN, goal could be marriage; that's usually a goal for most people. It can usually be managed in a year. StH....Hmm, I'd say do a few endings as a goal. There are some that can be done easily enough. You could even have it that the Cake ending, which requires Golden Eggs and Golden Milk, could be your stopping point, since it usually takes unlocking a few endings first to get animals up high enough for it. I dunno. That's all on you, I suppose. :3
I'll take a look into those. So far I hate BtN. They changed up all the roles of the girls but it's the same exact people. Not Happy. Also can't believe I used to play on the PS controller it's so hard. But still will play it. So I'll see whether or not I want to get married and spend that much time but I will see.

I'll take a look at those endings and see what I can do. I usually go with the endings I can get in a row while not taking too much time on a game. (cause I got a lot to do) But thank you very much for that idea!
As for my personal playthroughs, I'm at the Summer Year 1 Race on Hero of Leaf Valley, about to participate in the Short Distance after I type this. Doubt it will go well since it's my first time, lol. I also got 5 Power Berries with my dog the other day, so it's a lot easier to do more in one day now. Other than that....all the girls are at Green hearts for me now, and everyone else in the village has 2 hearts for me, except for a random few that still only have 1. Yep, that's it for now. P:
Good job! :D I'm glad to see others playing and very happy to get to hear your progress. Thank you!

if you are having a hard time with the controls in BTN, walk to your bookcase (this can take me up to 5 minutes real time, no joke...), examine it, and change the control scheme. i find that control scheme 2 works best with an analog stick and is the closest to how 64 controls, but other people have said that 3 works best for them, so whichever you prefer. that might make things easier on you.

as for a goal, i'd say either marriage or one year, whichever you prefer (or comes first...). that game is so super long that playing to the end would take you forever. it's actually really easy to get a girl's heart levels up, so you can easily have her to red heart before winter.

elli is the easiest for me (i just give her a couple rucksacks filled with flowers every day and she changes heart level in only about a week, less if she has heart events in there to boost her heart more...i always invite her to the goddess festival the first year, since t's so easy!), though you might have good luck with ann or popuri (ann gets a spa-boiled egg and popsie gets a raw egg every morning), since they both hang out at the hot springs in the morning, so it's really easy to get gifts for them if you have a chicken. mary is fairly easy once a week, if you run up to the meadow every monday morning and give her every flower, then supplement during the week.

the girls are kind of a snore in this one (though they are more interesting than in FoMT by a long shot~), so i wouldn't bother too much with choosing one you like if you are interested only in getting married quickly.

Well I always marry Elli so that's what I am going to focus on doing. Thank you for your suggestion but it's not the control scheme that is the problem. The biggest problem is the camera angle and how up is really diagonal. That's what bugs me. The controller is more of how to hold it without holding it like it's a ps3 controller. So it's not really that big of a problem it's just me getting over it. And I agree with your comparison to FoMT. XD

----------------------------------------------------------

I thought I spent a good enough time on HM 2 GBC that I could move to the new one. Plus I can't get sheep until the spring so I'd just be playing to get one. :/ And I finally completed HM 64, the only reason I didn't complete it earlier is I spent the last few days trying to be the harvest king. But replay the two days was so exhausting! I had so much to do in those days that replaying it 13 times was a real pain. I got to be harvest king and then got married! I'll have some photos and an video to add to the photobucket album! :D I have started Back to Nature & HM 3 GBC.

Up and Coming!!

My goals for BtN are to marry Elli, hopefully it won't be as painfully long as HM 64. Not the wooing but the game play. ;.; My goals for StH are a little less concrete. I am deciding between: Treasure Hunt II, Cake Contest & A Fishy Story. Treasure Hunt II cause I like Dia, Cake Contest cause I like Katie and animals (but I like Dia more), and A Fishy Story cause as a girl I like Joe! XD

After I finish HM 3 GBC I'm on to new adventures with the GBA!!! On to FoMT. I have no goal here due to the fact I'm not sure what to do. It's almost exactly the same as BtN and I already have the save files filled up. So most likely it's having a baby! (I'm already married to Elli) Then Moving on to MFoMT and I think I'll play til the end of spring, since I'll be playing to many similar games! I'll probably find a love interest but that's as far as I'm going. @.@

So after BtN & StH comes AWL & AnWL. I'll play to the end of year 1 in AWL marrying Nami of course. I'm not sure how long I'll play in AnWL but my love interest is Marlin. Since everyone else seems to just be a loser. (no offense that's just how I see them)

Other Info.

Very excited for the new games. They are way different and that's exciting. I've never played any of these three games I just recently got them. So I have never played them. (though I've had the games for a while except BtN that's the newest one, I just never played them) I'm interested in the different aspects each of the games are going to give! I hope they are fun! :D

So how is your runthrough going?

I honestly prefer the characters in BtN to 64. 64's controls were terrible, and the days were way too short. I have both games, but I'll play BtN over 64 any day. I just like it better. But that's just me. :/

I lost the Short Distance on HoLV, so I reset, lol. Thinking I don't have enough hearts with my horse to do much good in the races for now, so I'll be waiting for next season and just betting on the other competitors.

I guess to me because I've played games since I was a child having complete control of your character for precise movements (64) over only forward movement (btn) is way better for faster and quicker game play. (btw, only forward movement means if you press a direction it's hard to change the characters direction right away, this also happens in the GB & GBC versions, where if you start running you have to stop moving or you can get majorly stuck and waste time) I like way more presision game play. I liked the characters roles in 64. It's not about the cutscenes or there behavior I just like chefs over doctors any day. And so because Elli changed I'm unhappy. I haven't played a lot of BtN so I don't have a preference. But I'm sure everyone is different and what game people played first they seem to favor more (just noticed that with what game people first played and then their favorite usually the game).

I know how you feel. OMG I totally re played two days in a row 13 times until I won. XD (but that was for the harvest king) So I usually don't ever save a loss!

i prefer 64 to BTN. i like how it is really fast-paced and hectic if you are trying to do everything, though longer days wouldn't hurt. the only problems i have with the controls are the clunkiness from both the 64 controller itself and from features they could have added but didn't think of or figure out yet (better rucksack controls would have been nice...). but being able to go diagonally is really, really nice in 64. i find the movement controls easier and more fluid, and all those c-button controls to be a bit clunky. i find BTN's movement to be clunky, but rucksack controls to be nicer. i think going diagonally and the fact that it takes me 5 minutes to get to my bookshelf in BTN to change the control scheme to something that makes sense gives 64 a slight edge in controls, despite the clunkiness. i'd rather be able to walk to my crops to harvest them and have to open my rucksack to take them out every tie than -not- be able to walk to my crops.

i mostly prefer the townspeople in BTN, though. there are exceptions, but i found that in 64, the girls and the rivals had a lot of personality, and most of the townspeople were just sort of there. i'm glad that BTN paid more attention to the townspeople, though it sort of greyed everything out so everyone was at the same (somewhat lesser) level of depth. i wish that they would have kept the girls and rivals to be really interesting, but also raised the level of the townspeople, instead of bringing everyone to the middle.

i do prefer the feel of the town in 64, since it feels more like you are actually in this small town where people from other towns pass through, where not everyone is friendly at first since you are an outsider, where everything is steeped in unique history and tradition, etc. it feels like a fuller experience to me.

i still love BTN, though. it is really quiet and slow, so it's a good game to relax with.

i played BTN first. i got 64 towards the end of the 64 generation (only because i didn't have a 64 before 2002 or so...), so i had already been playing BTN for a year or two before i got 64. i still like 64 better. i don't understand the "liking whichever you played first" thing. i guess it's what you are used to, but i had no problems going back to 64. maybe it's nostalgia, and i don't really care about that with games. (i also doubt i could go back and play my first HM again [SNES], since it's so old and so basic  too basic even for me! well, i have a better chance of playing that than my second HM [GB1...not even GBC yet], which was a stripped-down version of my first, despite putting many hours into it, hunched over my gameboy, trying to make sure it was in the right lighting so i could see the screen...)

I so agree about the rucksack problem. But I was able to get used to quickly selecting them, so it didn't become such a problem. I really don't enjoy being able to have the quick select from the rucksack.

I do also agree with the fact that 64 didn't pay much attention to the towns people. And just with playing a few days BtN has already had cutscences with normal folk.

the "liking whichever you play first" was from another forum on here where most people did feel that way along with a lot of my friends I asked them and they chose their first. It doesn't mean you have to feel that way it just means that a lot of people do. But then again we don't know how much they've played harvest moon, whether or not that's their only one, etc. It's just what I've read and heard. Though to also state people who have been playing since the SNES almost never choose the snes version. "liking whichever you play first" is the FIRST EVER game you played of harvest moon not what game you played before the other one btw. (So if someone started off on HM 64 and then played from there they would say I like HM 64 the best.)

My first HM game was the first GB game. Definitely not my favorite. XD BtN was my first console HM, though. After many years, I found 64 on the cheap. After hearing so much hype for it, I was super-stoked to play it. It felt so limited and incomplete compared to BtN (rucksack controls, lack of cooking, house upgrades that do nothing), that it almost felt like BtN's beta. The characters were interesting, but overall, I was just disappointed with 64. Had I played it before BtN, it might've been different, but as it is, I didn't, so I dunno. I respect other people who like it, but it's just not for me.

It is, however, not my least favorite. That title belongs to Island of Happiness. I'd at least play 64 again if the mood was right. Nothing could convince me to play IoH again. XD

I'm sorry (1 or 2 watchers) I had to babysit all weekend (fri-mon) my 4 month old nephew. Now I'm spending most of my week battling my college to get my classes/transcripts/etc. straighten out so I can go to school and after all that the end of this week I am deciding my wedding day with my fiance and planning events to lead up to it. So last weekend and all the week are Harvest Moon free. :(

Okay guys I realized that I am going to be spending the next two weeks drawing for the contest so I probably won't get much done which literally just took away 3 weeks out of my 8 week spree. @.@ So I will probably extend the timeline longer.

HM DS SI - End of Spring
HM StH - Complete the Ending
HM ToT - End of Spring

55 hours (5pm est 1/6/2012) and counting to the end of the Super Ultra Awesome Harvest Moon Runthrough!!

OKAY! This means the run-through is officially over! I don't have time at the moment to send full updates (I've been running like crazy). But this is what I think I'm currently at:

HM StH: Mid-Summer waiting for Dia to come to my farm. (after that then ending is a breeze all I have to do it water the crops)

HM SI & ToT: Mid-Spring.

HM DS Cute & MFoMT: Just started.

I think this runthrough didn't turn out that bad! :D
