The more ingredients you use on your recipe, the better results you'll get. But the best your dish is, the hardest the contest gets. I think it is part of the "fun" of the game, but honestly, I only participated on the cooking contests until I opened the tunnel. Then, goodbye cooking contest!

You shouldn't say goodbye to the cooking festival, you can get trophies from Pierre, the Sled from Ina/Rutger once you've completed the tunnel, and gems that cost a fortune.
