ToT or AP?

I've been thinking about these two games recently. I've played through ToT up until I had a kid and the main plot was finished, but I sold it when AP was about to come out but I never got it
Which version did you guys like? I'm considering both mostly because ToT I still have my saved data on and AP is just a newer version. Who knows, I'll probably end up with both and giving the one I don't like to my sister.

ToT is kind of cute, but I like AP waaaaaaaaaay better.
Anyway, if I were in your place I would get both, so I could choose for myself

Animal Parade in my opinion is better, I loved how you could have 2 kids who help around the farm, look like your spouse and they could be friends with your love rivals children but the downside about Animal Parade is that it is very slow. On some occasions it'd take me a hour to get through 1 in game day.

Tree of Tranquility is actually good, where as Animal Parade had so many glaring flaws it was more like a distraction than a game. Mmph, for several reasons I think Tree of Tranquility is MUCH better.

I liked both a lot, but I felt that I had more to do once I was married and had kids in AP.

I loved Animal Parade better. Not only the way they set up the towns, etc. But I felt everything was more compelling and easier to get into.

Hands down ToT.
AP was the first HM game to really let me down. The game just didn't flow, and it was so hard to get into. AP had a lot of features that were so interesting when they were announced, but when you actually sat down and played the game you realized they weren't that great.
For one, farming was absolutely awful. I mean you could fertilize up to the highest level and still end up with a lot of decent crops which ticked me off to no extent. Taking care of your crops was also a long and boring task that took forever in comparison to how quick ToT was. The animal system I will admit was better in AP, as they didn't take to long to take care of, but on the other hand you can only have 3 types of animals in your barn, which was kind of dumb to me since their was a variety of interesting animals such as ostriches, goats, etc. that it seemed unfair to only choose 3.
Fishing and mining system took a turn for the worse. ToT's mining was simple and fun, ores that were shiny had something other than scrap metal and you didn't have to pay to get them appraised. AP on the other hand was tedious, you had to pay to get your ores refine, even if you just ended refining a bunch of scrap metals. Fishing was also boring, and really didn't turn out a good profit like it did in ToT. You threw away 5 hours for like under 5000G which to me was a major waste of time.
The festivals are also pretty awful, not that ToT was any better, but at least you had flea markets. In AP you had a cricus which didn't even properly function until you went through a fetch quest and saved the animals, and you couldn't really event participate the circus until you had kids. Also the "flea markets" were combined into one festival at the end of the year, which I didn't like at all since I prefered having the items spaced out over time.
AP is really known for its marriage system and the fact that you can have two kids. Well imo, the characters in AP were flawed in comparison to their ToT counterparts. Maya went from being nice and cheerful in ToT to TOO hyper and TOO happy and the rest of cast took a hit as well. Many people also like how you can raise your spouse to 20 hearts after marriage...basically meaning ten more lines of them saying "I love you." The kids also seemed like pets to me, and I couldn't even get that far enough in the game to have kids. While you could choose their personality they all ended up just saying pretty much the same thing from what I've seen in videos.
The map was also too big. The town, the mining district, and the farming distcrit are all nice, they are visually pleasing don't get me wrong. But they don't flow together because it takes forever to get to these places. And instead of making the roads to those places nice and appealing, they are empty and barren. You end up just running for the whole game from one place to another without anything to do.
I personally could not stand the game, and everytime I try to play it, I end up playing for 10 minutes top and just shutting it off.
I prefer ToT, and I do recognize that it is also flawed, but for me ToT was more enjoyable and playable in comparison to AP.
Lol don't bash me, it's just my opinion ^.^

^I actually like your opinion. You've given me much to consider when I'm thinking about which version to keep and to give to my sister.

@Genie9: I'm biased toward AP since it's the only one I've played and you've given me a bit to consider too. I may get ToT now
I do like AP, but I'm pretty sure that's because I played a lot of the handheld HM games prior to this, and had just come from playing ToTT. ToTT made me want to rip my hair out, and compared to pretty much all of the DS versions AP is a nice throwback to say HM64 and other old school games. This made me really, really happy.
Fishing is obnoxious but not totally necessary like in other games, thank « Harvest Goddess ». Mining is necessary but the chance thing with appraisal grew on me after a while. The plot's derpy but definitely cuter and more productive than the DS games. I've heard the characters are watered down from their ToT counterparts, but their dialogue is still interesting and I enjoy their personalities. Compared to ToTT and IoH/SI these characters, even in their watered down state, have a lot more personality. The game doesn't totally stagnate after marriage either and there's always quite a bit to do.
Yea crops are weird and you don't always get the level you need, but at least you don't have to deal with freshness OR the « Snuggly Bunny » up weather system from ToTT and IoH/SI anymore. The game felt much more rooted in what HM is about. Having only 3 types of animals is a pain, the map is huge, but all of this forces you to take your time (but isn't overkill like ToTT), which I really, really appreciate in an HM game. The music's cute, the animals are cute, having kids is much more entertaining in this game than in any other HM to date, and the courtship system makes more sense than any of the others.
So yea, AP's pretty flawed, but compared to recent HMs it's a LOT better and much closer to what I really liked in HM64 and the other old school versions. AP doesn't feel as intrusive, I guess, and is a really good game to play if you want to relax imo.

I've never played TOT but i have AP, But i LOVE AP.
Yes, sure the time is SLOW and can get annoying, and how you like the charecters is all opinion it just depends on the person. I don't think their half bad, but i haven't played TOT eaither.
Marrige:(This isn't a huge spoiler, but if you don't want to know to much, then u might not want to read it.)
I kind of like the charecters, I LOVE the festivals, some of them are so sweet. The bachelors are cute. 2 Kids in the game are nice. I like AP's mineing better than all of the other handhelds i have. I LOVE the cusomizaton you have. You can change the style of your house, Pick which fruniture you want to match your style. AND you can dress your MC in a wide seletion of clothing, And if you have children you can dress them up to. I don't mind the farming to terribly. I Love that your spouse and children can do chores for you.
I Also like that you can take pictures and save them, and even put them up on your house walls in picture frames. One time i put my wedding picture in the liveing room and put a family picture in the kids room. Lol. Love them pictures.
Sorry for the unorginzation, but i was just typeing as a thought. Lol, good luck with your choice of games.

I think I'm just going to get both and from what I've read from all of your opinions, I may be better off keeping ToT for myself and giving AP to my sister. Although I am going to marry Wizard in AP, can't marry him in ToT anyway.

Animal Parade

In my opinion there is just more to do, more characters, nicer graphics, and I just find it more fun than ToT. I still own both and both are great games but I just have to say AP for the win. (oh and it's a little easier to befriend people.)
