So I was debating 3DS version vs DS version (due to all the freezing/lag complaints I've seen across different forums). My bf called Gamestop to see what was in stock, and the employee said they (idk if "they" meaning Gamestop or Natsume) are discontinuing Tale of Town towns and the only they only had what's left (which is 2 3DS versions). Anyone else had this problem trying to find copies of Tale of Two Towns? I know you can buy it online at the Natsume store, but going to Gamestop is more convenient for me personally.

Thats odd.
I have not heard of that. I live beside 3 Gamestops, and 2 of them had a couple of copies. Only the one in the mall didn't.
The 3ds version was hard to come across, but the regular I had no problem. I say your best bet is Amazon, Ebay, Gamestop, or Natsume online.

I'm sorry about your inconvenience on finding the game. Goodluck!

I saw a similar story on the gamefaq's board back around Christmas. From what I remember, its not that the game is discontinued, its that store or district of stores has decided to stop carrying it. Matter of fact, the OP actually ended up going to another store in the next town and got it, iirc.

I found ToTT while using gamefly. A friend of mine had mentioned their little brother being obsessed with Harvest Moon in a passing conversation. When we got GameFly, I remembered it and searched it. There were a bunch of options and I picked ToTT, after a few months of having it (Renting) My mom finally bought it for me.

On gamefly there's a buy option, and if you're a long-time member you can get a discount for buying their games online:))

capaul is right~

Any less known games (not less known to us, but what the company considers not as popular as games like Call of Duty, etc.), get discontinued very quickly. Meaning the head office (warehouse) stops ordering copies, to send out to stores. Since it's not a recall (if there's an issue with the game, all copies are sent back), you could probably look or call different Gamestop stores who might still have an old copy that they haven't sold yet and put it on hold, or get it transfered.

Any game "discontinued", is company wide, rather than district or region. Hope this helps~ :)

One gamestop 20 minutes away only had the 3DS version too, and not very many. I got the 3DS version after all and so far no freezing and a little lag here and there. Just wish I could've gotten the DS version for no problems, but I'll live. Thanks for the feedback!

A response like that doesn't surprise me in the least, although if I were to ask either of the two major games shops around here, they wouldn't even know what HM is (resists urge to hurt the person behind the counter because hello you've got an AWESOME job at least pay attention to the stuff that is released!). Anyways, they never sold either version in any of our major stores, and of course, asking gets me those frustrating weird looks where I want to bodily remove them from behind the counter because I am considered "too old" to work there and yet have a better knowledge of games than them... //sigh

Had to go to a little shop all the way in the city, that imports a copy of each version that is compatible with our DSs, so I was amazed to happen upon the normal version let alone ever get a choice to play the 3DS one XD There's barely any 3DS games out here worth playing, unless you want every variation of Nintendogs... such a waste of money those are, they are all the same and boring within the hour.

Man I hate how I feel like the only person in the entire state who's ever heard of the series let alone knows they have a new game out -_-'

I know exactly how you feel. I get a lot of looks when the workers realize I'm not buying for my kid lol. Doesn't help that I'm 37 and most people think people my age don't game at all.

They always do this. About a year or six months after the game is released they discontinue it. It took me forever to find HMDScute. It sucks a lot but there's nothing we can really do...

It does happen a lot. The store just suddenly decides to stop carrying it.

Oh boy. This sucks. I never had this problem and I already have my Tale of Two Towns. I think I got it early and all... I'm sorry to hear that, though. It's a really fun game. I wish you the best of luck on finding the game. Good luck!

The don't sell any HM games in Australia (or at least this state) that allow you to play as a girl. It's really weird, like they are almost doing it on purpose, which is strange because Australia is known for being a farming place o -0 I mean I was so excited to happen upon a copy of magical melody for the gamecube thinking that I was finally going to get to play as a girl for the first time, and would you believe it, they took the girl option out and even left her on the cover, just to make a version for out here! D:< rahhh LOL

I'd say DS cute is the best version of the series perhaps, although now I wish it had some of the new extra stuff like silkie chickens and grains etc :P

*sigh*Gamestop...

*warning - geezer ranting*
Spoiler:
I miss the days when you used to carry every game you could get your grubby little paws on and offered them at a real value. T-T Your employees were always friendly and actually knew things about videogames and never tried to make me buy a strategy guide. I also miss your outstandingly affordable rentals and how you would let me try games out at the store. You took everything Funcoland had and did it 10 times better. Unfortunately as soon as they were out of the picture you just stopped caring. =(
