So... I'm looking to expand my game horizons a bit... I want to be a bit more experienced than what I am now, having only played FE, Pokemon, and Mario... Does anyone have any good recommendations for good, beginner RPGs for 3DS?(regular DS included

)

I like Tales of the Abyss and I also have Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor. I really like both of these games but especially abyss, I find it hard to actually put down. I haven't really seen much in the line of J/RPG's for 3DS'. I'm not much help, sorry ^-^'

not sure if you should really play it as an RPG beginner, since it will ruin more traditional RPGs for you, but radiant historia is really amazing and you should totally play it.
maybe get another RPG or two under your belt first, then play RH. you might just love it. it's amazing.
it has a definite old-school fel, but some of the mechanics are updated and fresh. plus, the characters are pretty decent, so you'll end up being spoiled with cool characters and a cool battle system (and amazing music

) and might not want to go back and an actual old-school RPG, haha~

If you wanna try out old-school RPGs, check out the FF series, Dragon Quest series, Golden Sun and Chrono Trigger, for starters.
If you wanna try out the more unique RPGs, then definitely check out The World Ends With You and Radiant Historia.
You try out any of those first, then you'll be fine digging out other RPGs.
Oh, since you're a Mario fan, you might like the Mario and Luigi series (particularly Bowser's Inside story). It's an RPG set in the Mario-verse, with a great battle system and fun dialogue.

If you can stand to play a game that feels a little older, Chrono Trigger was ported to DS a while back. That's one of the classics.

I personally recommend the Paper Mario Games (including Super Paper Mario, though that's technically an RPG-Platformer...thing), Chrono Trigger (I got the DS version a month or two back, really liking it), all Pokémon games, especially its spin-offs (Pokémon Ranger and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon (though that's technically an RPG-Roguelike thing) are pretty damn good) and the Mario&Luigi games are very good as well.
A lot of those are for DS, sans the Paper Mario games. And some of the Pokémon games, but the ones you CAN get on DS are Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Black and White, soon Black and White 2, soon Pokémon Conquest, all three Pokémon Rangers, and all the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games in some form.

For beginners start off with the Mario RPGs, FF games, Chrono Trigger, and Golden Sun. Possibly World Ends with You too. Afterwards I'd go for Radiant Historia (EXCELLENT game) and THEN attempt Disgaea DS, Devil Survivor and the Dragon Quest series. If you're new to RPGs and have only played Mario and Pokemon before, do not attempt Devil Survivor before playing some other RPGs first. Trust me. You will want to break your 3DS otherwise
Basically my recommendation for your 3DS is to start with the old school RPGs from the DS and then work your way up

^ IAWTC ^ -- I'm an RPG veteran, and I hate tactics RPGs. The reason it took me so long to play Persona was because I played and hated Devil Survivor, and I thought they were all like that.

I'd also recommend Chrono Trigger, although it might be better to wait, because CT has a lot of cool (and unique) things I wish were in all RPGs, so playing some more...I dunno, "regular" RPGs first might be better.
For Final Fantasy, I'd recommend my favorite, FFVI. Great story, characters, MUSIC...also, it's a bit more "forgiving" than a lot of other RPGs, in that you get to keep the experience you gained even if you die. And it's really not very hard.

Chalk up another Chrono Trigger recommendation, can't go wrong with that game.

why didn't i think of chrono trigger? that's one of my fave games of all time, haha~
put me down for CT, as well. then when you are done with that, play radiant historia, since it's a very different sort of time-travel RPG.

If for some reason you have never played Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and even if you haaave, I definitely recommend the remake!
<3
Chrono Trigger is awesome too, but I haven't played the remake yet.

except for a different translation (they got rid of frog's ye olde english, but they kept in the alcohol references instead of having them getting drunk on "soup," so it's a wash there) and added dungeons and things that are 100% optional, it's the same game.
there is another ending, though, that ties it in to the sequels, but that's optional and you can only unlock that in new game + and if you do the optional dungeons.
really, the added content is pretty weak. i wouldn't bother with it unless you -really- want the new items you can get from it. actually, one of the sets of added dungeons isn't
too bad (and has greater rewards -- this is also the dungeon that unlocks the added final boss and added ending), but the other one (the village full of reptites one) is pretty terrible and super annoying to go through, so unless you're a really dedicated fan, i wouldn't bother with that.

Yeah, if you've already played Chrono Trigger, don't bother with the remake.
(Says the guy who did play CT AND bought the remake)

...unless you're like me and can play CT almost as endlessly as you can play LoM.
RH is getting there, too, though i've only played in twice so far...in under a year, haha.
