Your first year Chen will stock one red wonderful, one yellow wonderful, and one blue wonderful. Once you buy them he will sell wonderful chips on the 10th of each season and will have wonderfuls in the Winter of the each year for sale.

The color of these Winter wonderfuls will depend on the invisible degree points you have. The following quote is by Miki3220 from a thread called "How to get wonderfuls in winter"
In Winter you can get Chen to sell Wonderfuls of any color. The color he sells will depend on matching the last two digits of two of your "Degrees" or "Levels". You have Degrees/Levels for Animals, Cooking, Crops, Fishing, Mining and an Other which I think is the sum of the 5 degrees added together. The stone colors are produced by matching the levels like this:

Yellow - fishing/other
Orange - cooking/other
Red - crops/other
Green - mining/other
Blue - animals/other
Indigo - cooking/animal
Purple - crops/mining

The major problem is that there is no way to see the number assigned to any Level, so you are stuck adjusting a Level by one, over and over, until the last two digits of the two Levels match. It is a very time consuming process but if you want a specific stone it is the only way I know to get it. After you buy a Wonderful, you have to wait 3 days before Chen will sell another.

To get your stone: In Winter, when you're ready for bed (it needs to be before midnight) make sure your stamina is full, save your game, go to bed and when you wake up go directly to Chen's store and check for a Wonderful. If there is none (or not the color you want), reload your game, use your tool once (it counts even in your house), go to bed and when you wake up go check Chen's. Keep repeating the process until you get the color you want. I saved after every 5 tool swings just so I didn't have to keep counting. It can require up to 99 reloads to get the color you want.

To change your Degree/Level by one: for Animal use the brush, for Crops use the hoe, for Fishing cast the rod, for Other use the axe.

You also need enough Gold to be able to buy the stone(s) you want. You can have the Harvest Sprites Enchant Chen's store to lower prices and save some gold. A small effect on lower prices will save 5% of the cost (so instead of 4,000 you would pay 3,800). The values below are from the Official Strategy Guide. The values match what was in my game, except that I would almost swear that Chen was selling the Indigo for only 30,000 G . . . Save your Gold during Fall so you can buy the stones you want.

Yellow - 4,000 G
Orange - 10,000 G
Red - 5,000 G
Green - 8,000 G
Blue - 5,000 G
Indigo - 50,000 G
Purple - 2,000 G
Hope this helps.

Wasn't some of this information misleading? Or at least somewhat incorrect. If you are persistent it will still get you
Yellow, Orange, Red, Green, and Blue Wonderfuls, but not Indigo ones. I thought that and in my experience I have found that using tools inside your house or not in the proper manner will only result in raising the Other degree 1 point. This will allow you to cycle throught Yellow, Orange, Red, Green, and Blue. But as far as I know getting Indigo requires you to ship cooked items. Just save before shipping then ship an item and sleep and check the store and go through all 50 and if an indigo doesn't appear you have to cook an item you have cooked before the repeat the process in order to hit all 100 point values.
I have used the information in the thread VeggieAngel qouted to get myself 4 green wonderfuls, and will use it try and get another yellow and two oranges before winter ends. If anything I have said is confusing please post saying so.

I think the problem with getting Chen to sell either the Indigo or Purple Wonderful is that you have to affect the animal and cooking degrees for the indigo, and the mining and crop degree for the purple wonderful.

Any other color can be affected by using a tool in your house. The milker and brush won't work to affect the animal degree, I read in one of the threads they become "other" points as would the ways you gain crop degree points become "other points if you are not farming in your greenhouse or field. If you perform only one or two points of other activity you change the wrong degree. One auther posted that they gave a gift to a villager and that changed the color of the resulting wonderful at Chen's.

Indigo is easier to get by getting to the 255th floor of the mine if the is stormy two days after your visit to the mine. The Harvest Goddess will give you a wonderful dependent upon the weather.

Most of my indigos came from my husband. My birthday is in Winter and so is my anniversary. After your child begins to walk, your spouse will give you a wonderful on Starry Night after you put your child to bed.

That Starry Night wonderful will be dependent on the weather just as the wonderful at the bottom of the mine is.

Uggh.....As if wonderfuls weren't already hard enough to obtain! I'd be willing to pay so much more for a wonderful if only they were more consistantly stocked to buy. Tools really need the wonderfuls to be useful, and it's really annoying to have to juggle them around through Charlie.

I've only played Sunshine Island, Grand Bazaar and now I've just started Tale of Two Towns.

Obtaining wonderfuls and using them are easier in this game than in the other two games I've played.

You can get a wonderful by winning at the various festivals. First place is always a wonderful which is set by the weather two days after the festival. The Harvest Goddess will give you a wonderful each time you reach the bottom floor of the mine (255). When you get married your spouse will present you with a wonderful on your anniversary.

You can get a color you want in the mine by saving before you to bed and advancing two days to see what the weather is on that day. The weather is set 6 days in advance so don't go ahead farther than that. You will want to reload to where you saved (so you can plan your mining trip and continue your game), if you go farther than 6 days, you may find the weather is different on the seventh day.

As for being a textbook, that title belongs to others whose posted I've searched for and used as I've played the game.
