Heya sis.

Dragon quest sentinals of the starry sky is good. It has the Smudjy seal of approval, though not romance and is mainly adventure.

/Also Avalon code is on e of my faves, this one is romance and adventure.

3DS: Fire Emblem. It's an awesome strategy RPG, and the 3DS iteration, the latest in the series, incorporates dating sim elements.

Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time is a classic, you should check that out.

And for something different, Pushmo. A delightful puzzler.

DS: RPG HEAVEN. Seriously. I recommend:

-Golden Sun: Not as good as the GBA game, but still a solid entry in the series. A bit easy, though. Plenty of overworld puzzles.

- Atelier Annie: It's the closest to the HM/RF games in terms of gameplay. You play as an alchemist, so you know what that means: craft like there's no tomorrow. Your job is to turn your barebones island town into a bustling city full of tourist attractions. And to do that, you go do the usual JRPG routine in various dungeons, collect lots of stuff to either sell or craft into better stuff, and complete quests so you can earn enough money to do the aforementioned island redecoration.

- Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story: Has a story packed with humor, really good overworld puzzles, a fantastic action-prompt battle system, and the chance to play as Bowser himself!

- The World Ends With You: It's... unique. It's an RPG, it has an amazing story, a funky art style, great soundtrack, and a unique and awesome battle system. It's hard to describe, really, it's better to check out some Youtube videos or something.

- Chrono Trigger: A classic RPG. Has a really good "traditional" battle system, and the story is really good too. Involves time travel.

- Nostalgia: Very deserving of its name, as it's basically a love letter to old-school RPGs.

- Contact: An Earthbound-esque action RPG that's heavily meta. For instance, your existence and role as the player is acknowledged. Plus, you can kill the town NPCs!

- Suikoden Tierkreis: Well, it's Suikoden! 108 recruitable characters, and a solid RPG all in all.

- Radiant Historia: Great production values! The best way to describe it is a "JRPG done right". It's familiar, but fresh. The story is one of best explorations of time travel I've ever seen in video games, especially since it is tied closely to the gameplay itself. Really, it takes all the best things about JRPGs and replaces the tedious stuff with some interesting new stuff. I'll get into more detail if you want me to. Just know that this is one of the best RPGs I've played not only on the DS but any system ever.

And I haven't even gotten to Shiren the Wanderer, Pokemon, Etrian Odyssey, FF, FFT, DQ, the DS Zelda games, The Dark Spire...

seconding radiant historia.

seriously. amazing game.

i'm not sure how you are with text-based puzzle-type games, but you have some games there with visual novel elements, so i'll also put forth phoenix wright and ghost trick. not really a lot in the way of dating elements, but it isn't too far of a leap. (plus, if you tend to be the type to ship a lot of characters, the AA universe is perfect for that, haha)

Shiren the Wanderer? Be prepared for a difficulty level far beyond any of the games you listed.

I'll third Radiant Historia as well. It's one of the best jrpg's I've played in a long time.
I'll also mention Okamiden, though not as much as RH. Especially if you've already played the original Okami for the PS2/Wii.
The World Ends with You is decent. Don't go expecting anything absolutely amazing but it'll help pass the time.
If Shiren looks interesting, I'd also look into Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. Either Red/Blue or Sky. It's also a rogue-like rpg but far more friendly for a newcomer to the genre with refreshingly stronger writing than what you expect from a Pokemon game.

You've played Atelier Annie? AWWWW YEAAAAAH~ I thought that game was so adorable<3

I fourth Radiant Historia~

There's also Chrono Trigger, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 1 & 2(the first is a lot of level grinding though, not sure about the second, haven't had a chance to pop it in and find out, haha), Tales of the Abyss(just started playing this actually).

If you want to try something different, I'd recommend Hotel Dusk~

Try Summon Night: Twin Age for DS. It's an action-RPG that lets you play as a female protagonist and there's some romance as well. There's also Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 1 (my personal favourite) & 2. They're for GBA but you can play them on a DS and they hold up really well. They also allow you to choose your gender and there's romance as well.

Some of the characters from SN:SS 1

Protagonists
Spoiler:

Summon Spirits (partners in battle who also help you forge your weapons. You pick one at the beginning of the game).
