Animal Land is like a resort for your farm animals, it reduces their stress to zero and normal interactions with your animals count for more affection points (or at least I think their hearts raised faster). You can go on any day Neil is working, just talk to him and he'll take you and your animals of choice there for 100G and you stay for the rest of the day (you have to leave by 9PM). If you bring an animal often enough, a total of 50 hours, it will start producing special milk/wool. You can't bring your chickens though.
But aside from interacting with animals, there's nothing to do there, and when you go home it automatically goes to the next day. If you're trying to crunch in the 50 hours as quickly as possible, make sure you've done all the non-animal related work you need to do in the morning, then talk to Neil at 10am or so. Take care of the animals after you get to animal land, then set down your 3ds and go make a sandwich or browse Ushi or something :p Neil will automatically take you home at 9pm, pausing the game. You can get 50 hours this way in a little over 1 in-game week. It's much easier than wasting lots of extra days trying to get 50 hours stacked up.
Just a warning though, some of the blueprints and clothing requires non-special items only, so either hold off getting the special items right away, or have one of each animal that produces special and another that produces normal products.
edit: Also, animals that produce special items have an advantage in contests

It really is very boring there, especially if you end up trying to do the whole 50 hours in quick succession. I wish they would have added the ability to fish or something.
There will be many sandwiches made by the time you finish.
Also, I recommend you hold out until you have all the animals you plan on getting for the time being. I started by buying a cow and taking her to animal land while saving for the next one (and so on). That is a bad way to do it. Wait until you have as many animals as you feel like getting (or 1 fewer if you plan on following Nurse Fin's advice about clothing) and getting those all maxed at the same time.

the Giant animals is an interaction thing in Wifi sorry for the bad explanation ^.^; I haven't been looking at this game recently.
But I know it has to do with a Wifi room where you can interact with other farmers?
