like what animals you have at the beginning and what animals you can obtain from a latter time.

Year 1 Spring - Cows and chickens
Year 1 Fall - + Sheep
Year 1 Winter - + Yaks
Year 2 Spring - + Alpacas
Year 2 Summer - + Llamas
Year 2 Fall - + Jersey Cows
Year 2 Winter - + Silkies
Year 3 Spring - + Suffolk Sheep
Year 3 Summer - + Brown Alpacas

there are ways to unlock those animals earlier, though.

Sheep - Yuri moves in
Yaks - buy a lot of stuff from Neil (not sure of an exact amount)
Alpacas - Own 8-10 animals
Llamas - own 2 or more yaks
Jersey Cows - raise 3 calves
Silkies - Hatch 10 chickens from eggs
Suffolk Sheep - raise 3 lambs
Brown alpacas - raise 3 baby alpacas


...and you can get an old/classic-style cow as a prize if you win the cow contest thingy.

Thanks I have been waiting for this information! There is no difference between chickens/silkies, sheep/suffolk sheep, cows/jersey cows, other than aesthetics, right? because we can get higher level products by bringing the animals to animal land right?

I think you get different kinds of products from Silkies/Suffolk sheep/Jersey cows, like Jersey milk.
Not sure, though.

as long as the jersey cows don't look white with brown splotches, I hate that in ToTT, I liked them when a Jersey cow was all brown and looked like it made chocolate milk

And I like all brown jersey cows more than brown splotched jersey cows, too, so I'm glad they have that in ANB.
Well, at least with the derpy cows of ANB. It's a little weird in my head if I try to picture an all brown cow in ToTT. Still, it'd probably be very cute.

Erm, I feel a little dumb now.
I think I saw a picture somewhere of a brown cow in ANB and I thought it had to be the Jersey cow.
But... now I'm not sure anymore.
Maybe I even dreamt I saw it.
...Aaaaanyway, I'm sorry for any confusion I might have caused, I shouldn't talk about things I don't know about.

Anyway I think if the jersey cows aren't brown i will just have to deal widit.

The jersey cows in this game are all brown except for the pink of their noses.

A jersey cow in real life can be all brown or spotted brown and white so I don't mind either.

There are multiple cow colors.

Regular cow (3): White with large black spots, white with small black spots, or the classic "bubble" cow with black spots.

Jersey cow (2): All brown or white with brown spots.

Thank you Mz D and Cher! Now I can be assured of my ability to get an all brown jersey cow! If it isn't the way i like it i could always sell it.

As cher said. I wasn't sure how many versions there were though since I tend to dislike livestock. Very informative she is.
