I am now concerned about the qualities that make a "great" copule. 
^ That would depend on the person and their opinion. Like I wasn't a fan of Rick and Karen, but the Doctor and Ellie fit perfectly imo. A lot of people, usually those that are immature, may not like a couple because of their interest in the bachelor/bachelorette. As mentioned already, the whole GrayXMary thing was a giant fan war because Gray was a popular choice. While I like Gray, I don't want to stab Mary's eyes out. I actually felt bad about breaking them up.
So not all pairings in HM history have been bad. I feel like MM did the best job with it actually. but I'm also not going to say they've all been great. I hated the whole ChaseXMaya pairing in ToT/AP as well. I feel like they just put those two together just because they both shared and interest in food
