As long as you don't ignore them for a large amount of time, your spouse won't lose affection if you don't give them gifts after marriage. But it's still nice to recieve a present now and then
That's one of the things I love in HM games. You don't really have to do anything, unless you want to. I hardly ever give gifts to any character and they all have 10 hearts... In SI I gave everyone that five gifts, and to my husband to be until before marriage, but that was all.

The heart level can go down if you give the person a gift they detest.
ohhh how if for example you dont give gifts and dont talk everyday to ur husband for 3 years? and you give them to horror gifts then the heart level became 8 hearts and yellow heart will he leave you?
No, your spouse will never leave you. You just won't get the gifts you would if he/she is at 10 hearts and you need them to be at ten hearts to have a child. A child is needed to have 100 sunstones and will enable you to raise Sunny Island.
