Look there are 39 characters, as you said. I have all of them.

There are the main ones: Chelsea/Mark, Vaughn, Will, Lily, Alisa, Nathan, Witch Princess, Witchkins, Shea, Natalie, Pierre, Julia, Elliot, Denny, Lanna, Sabrina, Harvest Goddess, Wada, Gannon, Chen, Mirabelle, Eliza, Felicia, Charlie, Taro, Regis. (26)

The traveling ones: Popuri, Dr. Trent, Karen and Cliff. (4)

The sub ones: Nick, Carol, Haila, Martin, Ray, Slater, Kirk and Isaac. (8)

And at last, your children, that comes between Taro and Alisa. (1)

However, depending on the character you’re playing as, Mark or Chelsea won’t appear on the list. So, for example, if you’re playing as Chelsea, she/you won’t appear on that list.
