So far I've brought

Dylas - starts out lv18 (currently lv65) High HP, super high attack stat, can multi-target (later upgrades to all enemies on screen), specializes in gloves/claws. But has a low magic stat. He's an indispensable member of my battle party when I go dungeon crawling and it isn't just because I was targeting him as a love interest.

Vishnal - starts out lv2 (currently lv16) Balanced stats, can use Cure-All, specializes in dual swords.

Margaret - starts out lv5 (currently lv12) Very high magic stat, specializes in ranged weapons/staffs (she starts off with a harp that acts as a ranged weapon). I can't remember if she can heal or not.

Kohaku - starts out lv12 (currently 14) Moderately high HP, high magic, specializes in the watering can (hehe). She can inflict status effects on enemies

Forte - starts out lv12 (currently lv30) Moderately high defense and attack, can use Cure-All, specializes in ALL weapons but defaults to two-handed swords.

Nancy - starts out lv12 (currently lv14) High magic stat, can heal status effects, specializes in gloves, eventually learns a variety of physical skills (I think).

Barrett - starts out lv35 (currently lv40) Balanced stats, specializes in dual swords, uses earth magic

Raven - starts out lv40 (currently lv41) High magic and attack, TERRIBLE defense (if you want to use her regularly be sure to give her good armor), specializes in single-handed swords and can use a variety of fire magic.

So based on one of the CG's posted, I can make the assumption that those energy spheres caused Dolce, Leon, Kohaku, and Dylas to have monster forms? Or this is pretty much a baseless speculation?
Baseless speculation! that's not what the energy spheres are for at all. But I don't want to spoil anything, it's more fun to find out for yourself what they do :D

My theories can sometimes be pretty far off ^^; Although it will definitely be fun to find out the surprise and mystery behind the energy spheres!

Anyway, Dylas really sounds like an amazing member to take along as a party member, I can see why he's indispensable since he seems to have only about one to two pretty minor flaws. I just have a question I'm curious about though. In your opinion, which characters would you most recommend to take along with you in your party and who should you NOT bother leveling up?

Yees, Raven's fire magic returns! Barrett and Raven both start pretty high leveled but is it because it takes longer for you to get them as party members?

Also for farming, do you use dungeons to farm? Or can you just farm in your field and get by that way?

I think most of the characters can be very useful if you work with them enough, and give them decent equipment, and as they level up they learn new skills. I've definitely bumped up Dylas' stats with better weapons and armor. He's an aggressive fighter unlike Forte/Raven/etc so he defeats more enemies but I have to heal him more often too. At least sashimi is really easy to make so it's not that difficult to heal him.

I'm working on crafting armors to bump up his magic ability because I think it could make his multi-target attack more effective. But augmenting weapons and armor is so hard to do, some good items even demand that I have over 10,000 RP to apply them (I only have a measly 900RP ;____;). Hopefully that number will reduce as my crafting skill increases, all I can really do is craft tons of simple weapons/armor in bulk and sell them all but it's slow going.

I think Leon is one of the "top tier" allies (of course, he's the last one to unlock), but looking over his stats his defense isn't so good. Not as bad as Raven though (her defense stat @ lv40 is... 4 points. Seriously. Even Vishnal's is more than twice that @ lv2) idk about his attack frequency or if he has any special magic because I don't have him yet.

Volkanon also has a really high starting level (50!) but I haven't used him yet either.

It also depends on your fighting style. I am very much a "BLITZKRIIIEG!!!" kind of fighter (Frey is a glove specialist in my game, secondary weapon would be axes/hammers), so allies with high HP, speed, attack, and (hopefully) defense are of greatest interest to me. My Frey has a terrible HP stat though, even though I keep trying to raise it with skills xD

I prefer to do the healing myself, but since you won't be having any Cure abilities until later on in the game, it may be a good idea to bring along someone who can heal you for the first few dungeons. I remember when I brought Forte to the first two boss battles she just kinda stood there while I attacked and she'd heal me when necessary (usually), SOMETIMES she'd go up and attack but not that much. Just be aware that if your MC gets knocked out you get sent to the clinic regardless of whether your allies can heal you or not, so always bring healing items just in case

So you've gotten Leon? What's he like, personality-wise?

What did you name your character? Is Doug any good on the battlefield?

LOL, Kohaku's main weapon is the watering can?!

Wait... augmenting weapons and armor? How do you do that? Why does it take so much RP? Is it different from crafting armor/weapons in RFF?

Omg I am really happy that the party member aspect (and the AI of said party members) has been bumped up! I look forward to having a bunch of awesome party members~ ...annnnd dragging Vishnal with me on dungeon runs :shifty:

Huh? Who are you after now? :(
And wow. I guess it's nerve-wracking to be around the STAR of the town, Margeret and Forte.
question. Who was the hardest boss for you? :o

Peeked into this thread for a moment despite the spoilers tag and oh wow, this sounds so fun. I never played RF3, so I haven't really experienced the allies feature yet. From the looks of RF4, I'm glad I waited! Looks like they added a lot.

Oh my gosh, you literally took the words out of my mouth. I was thinking that, I scroll down one post, and then you said it. xD

Hey Fin,
Spoiler:
Does Raven ever turn into her monster form? c:

^You might want to put a spoiler up for that last part ^_^;

And hmmm... you always take someone with you to battle. Even when that option came out in RF3, I never really used it. Seems like you like it a lot though. Why is it better to bring someone in with you?

It didn't take that much longer. Barrett is actually the character I have highest FP with, it's at 10 already.

I don't, but there are some fields and ponds where you can farm and fish like it's a specific season. Once you get the airship working you can warp to them.

There are no seasonal dungeons anymore.
Quillbell wrote:So you've gotten Leon? What's he like, personality-wise?
I don't have him yet. I was just looking at base stats on the wiki.

リーナ, don't know yet, and yes xD I think Illuminator uses it too.
rachellion wrote: Wait... augmenting weapons and armor? How do you do that? Why does it take so much RP? Is it different from crafting armor/weapons in RFF?
Aside from crafting weapons and armor, you can customize them by augmenting them with a variety of items. Ores improve defense, fangs/nails improve attack, poison powder increases poison resistance (or adding it as a weapon effect) etc. Each time you do it, the weapon/armor will go up a level, so there is a limited number of times you can do it to a single piece of equipment.

I have a ton of good items saved up, but my crafting skill is only around lv20 so I can't use them :( All I can really do is make something basic and then augment it with really cheap/low-grade/easily found items like iron 10 times and then sell it.

No one :D I already activated the lovers mode thing with him so I don't need to put any effort into boosting his LP. But I still like to bring him with me on dungeon runs anyway.
Dylas was the hardest boss, but I was really low-leveled at the time. At this point in the game the dungeons themselves are a lot harder plowing through than the bosses.

tbh this is the least-spoilery spoiler thread ever xD;;

In the beginning, for the healing.
Later on, it's because I need another decent fighter to help take out monsters. Usually I go after the gate first, and a battle partner (or partners) takes care of the other monsters so they don't get in my way. Some of the gates move around and can be hard to hit. I'm in charge of healing now; if their HP starts to get low, I use Cure on them. Using this strategy is like getting free EXP, I (and partners) level up much faster

Hey Nurse Fin, is it alright if I ask another question?
Since you said you're already on the lovers state with Dylas, have you activated/used the Doki-Doki Zoom feature?
I've barely heard any news about it ever since it got announced back in 2011. :<

Sailor, could you please de-abbreviate CG and explain what it is? I'd appreciate that..still new to the Rune Factory train 8D
CG stands for Computer Graphic. They're basically pictures of the scene/character that are like rewards in a way, they're amazing. This is actually going to be my first RF game so I know how you feel.

Thanks for answering my question Nurse Fin! ^_^. And yeah, I never knew that about Raven as a newbie to RF here, erm…ANYWAY, so I guess early on it would be best to take someone who can heal you for the most part and also attack decently in the beginning? One thing I know for sure is that I'm definitely gonna make Dylas a part of my party as soon as possible when I get the game since he has very few cons. Probably Vishnal too for all that humor and possibly pursuing him.

Oh, and how interesting is the storyline so far on a scale of 1/10? And will we get to find out who Frey/Lest was before they fell off the airship in some point of the game?

EDIT: I just found out you can put your children in danger and recruit them O_O. I know my children's punishments now! xD

The gates move around now?? There are no seasonal dungeons??

The augmenting system sounds pretty cool though :) Thanks for explaining it!!
