For the easiest... well, none of them are actually hard. All of them have some kind of really-easy-to-find liked gift. Usually I don't even give gifts and just work with the FP bump from just talking, I like that pace.

As for who has the easiest (in my opinion) "favorite" gifts:
Girls - Dolce (any kind of pudding)... hmmm.. followed by Chlorica ("rare" gemstones and apple pie) -- but some other girls still have regular liked items that could make them easier to befriend
Guys - Dylas (milk porridge) followed by Leon (grilled poison trout, relatively easy fish to catch IMO)
Villagers - Porcoline (mushrooms), Bud (tamago-don), and Linghua (milk porridge)

Doug can't be befriended until you FINISH THE PLOT. Both the first and second parts. That means you can't raise his FP above 3 and he won't join you on adventures until then. His liked gifts are really really easy to find (rice/onigiri), but it won't do any good when his FP is locked.

Do you think it's a good RPG buy?
I love it. The amount of stuff to do has kept me from getting bored and finishing too quickly, and it's much better than the other RF games when it comes to RPG aspects, character involvement/development and storyline.

The battles seemed more challenging too and I am personally ecstatic that it implemented a party system and improved AI (and yeah, to everyone wondering... you literally will not be able to complete the game going solo. In some dungeons you have to cooperate with party members to be able to clear paths)

....no riding solo?

*sigh*
....
*removes sunglasses*

I've always been the RPGer to run straight into the jaws of imminent death with determination only to crawl away beaten and bruised. Until I finally find the loop...(Dragon Quest IX, I'm looking at you)

Some of the things you mentioned are pretty heavy-duty spoilers. PM Nurse Fin if you want plot info.

You can ride solo if you consider your items as your friends.. :p There are.. two? dungeons though that require followers (humans, not items) in order to unlock a hidden area.

The main reason it's highly not recommended to ride solo is because no matter how much damage they're dishing out, the real reason they're there is to tank damage for you and to keep enemies' attention away from you.. this is especially true with bosses.

Hard mode will see the town clinic turn into an filthy rich international space hospital if you refuse to bring friends along with you when dungeoneering.

You forgot this interesting twist ::

Raising FP gets harder the more you advance into their relationship. In other words, FP rate becomes slower after 3 FP if you dont plan on giving them gifts regularly.

For example, when all the villagers and candidates are in 0 to 3 FP or LP, talking to them once a day raises it to 20% and giving them like or loved gifts boosts it.

After 3-4 FP or LP, playtime is over.

I'm 3 in-game years (well, 5 with timeskip) into the game and the villagers who I dont regularly give gifts to (Jones, Nancy, Bud, Leon) are at 7-8 FP and I talk to these villagers often.

In lovers' mode, it's dates that really raise a lot of LP but if you're only above 7 LP, they wont always say yes to your date propositions until you raise them higher to perhaps 9 or even 10.

For example, when I was getting Kohaku to 10 LP to get some chance to activate her main romance sub event, she was a tiny inch away from 10 LP. I gave her a loved gift, honey, and that raised her up by like 1/50s of 100% in an LP bar, give or take.

The fastest way to max someone's FP is this:
1. prepare massive quantities of their favorite food
2. prepare massive quantities of their favorite non-food (if available)
3. ask them to come with you, go back home and give them both food and non-food, they will accept both with FP boost
4. talk to them and quickly exit the dialogue
5. sleep
6. rinse and repeat! you may bring more than one person along with similar likes if you want to save even more time.. (e.g. linghua & doug, dolce & kiel)

I've used this method and it take about 30-40 days to get someone from 6/7FP to 10. Also, love potions give a massive indiscriminate boost (~1/3 bar? at 7FP) I'm stockpiling a few hundred right now for NG+ lol.

Wow, I'm only in summer year 2 (of time that I've played) and everyone is at least 7 FP and the only character I've gifted is Dylas... I gave Forte new equipment and gave Margaret a birthday present but that's basically it. Vish had almost 8 LP by my first winter just from talking to him and adventuring a couple times.

Has anyone gotten the 'third story/plot' yet?

Well I'm sort of guilty of ignoring the story for gameplay grinding at times, Fin. I think I'm in my 30th+ year now because of these things.. haha...ha.. >_> Just crop levelling and FP maxing combined took about one and a half decade of staying awake for no more than 2 hours per day..

Tristan, a few of us have reached the third part already, is there anything you would like to ask?

Okay this game does sound awesome. I do like to solo my dungeon crawls on other RPG's but I like having companions too. Especially if one can focus on healing while I can bash the baddies up, I actually prefer doing the tanking. So long as it's not a "Just press A" to continue. I've been fed up of recent RPG's with not giving you much of a strategy other than press the same button over and over to attack.

I'm pretty much almost finished the HM game I'm playing so it might be a nice change, I was just going to go back to playing my Dragon Quest instead but if this one can offer a similar story and challenge then I might want to go out and buy it.

Sorry, I'm blanking, is raising FP and LP different? Like if you raise someone's FP, even if it's a bachelorette, does that mean you're still not allowed to date them unless you raise their LP as well? Or are they the same thing? Because I remember in RF2 you had to do specific things to raise LP, otherwise you'd never be able to get married

FP is friendship points while LP is Love points, from there I'm sure it's straight forward. If you raise someone's FP then you are making them your friend, raising their friendship, if you are raising someone LP, you are raising their love.
