I was walking in town at night, and the chef of the restaurant was out too. He walked near a lamp, then stopped and music notes came from him. Was this interaction of an item? Or was this something else? Why was he happy? First time I've seen a villager do this.

My villagers do it a lot. They're just happy as far as I can tell.

Villagers like certain kinds of decorations, I don't think they have dislikes but they do comment on their favorites. Apparently (not sure) it can add a boost to the Garden Show if you happen to use decorations your spectators like.

I don't know if they like certain items or the way certain items are arranged together. Perhaps a mix of both. I had the blueprint lady (forget her name) very happy with my wooden floor with benches around it and a lamp and some potplants. But she has never made a comment/been happy on any of those things by themselves around the rest of the town.
