what i want to know is if you have to go on some ridiculous mountain trek like in AP to get it, or is it just given to you by the harvest sprites or something?

I think you buy it for 10,000 at one of the stores when you met all the standards for marrage.

(in terms of real life, I know it's normal for harvest moon)
...well, in real life, do you give someone a blue feather to tell them you want to date them?
I give my real-life girlfriend rings as presents. Doesn't mean I am proposing to her. In-game it is a simple and easy to recognise item that is clearly linked to relationships. Works pretty well. If they changed it to say, flowers then it wouldn't be a unique item. If it was chocolates it wouldn't be a unique item. A giftbox could work but isn't uniquely symbolic of a romantic relationship. And (« Harvest Goddess » forbid) they switched it around so that the blue feather made someone date you and the ring proposed you would have half the harvest moon community up in arms and storming the company headquarters; there were enough angry posts in here when I first joined about them "removing" the blue feather in favour of the ring (until the feather was confirmed).

Yup. I think it makes sense. I'd be very upset if they took away the blue feather. It's iconic in the franchise. I think giving a ring to represent the start of a relationship is cute.
I remember freaking out a bit when I thought that they got rid of the blue feather. Damn rumors.
Anyways, I really like the idea of giving someone a ring to symbolize dating rather than just seeing heart events and then, viola! married. Makes things seem at least slightly more realistic.

I get what you guys are saying, it just struck me as wierd for a bit there. :D And no, I do not give people blue feathers in real life to tell them I want to date them. I wonder if it would work... ;]
