Foraging is a necessity as some items that you need for crafting/cooking can only be found in the wild.
Money is never a problem in this game so I horde heaps. The star level of wild items goes up as the years go on.
Insects are a really good money maker at the start as they regenerate during the day and your shipping bin doesn't have a closing time.
I recommend holding onto the rocks and logs till you get the tools/upgrade as it'll take a while for it to be unlocked.
Items are seasonal. The magic flower, moon flower returns but only appears in certain times of the year. Mushrooms and toadstools are back and with a nice variety. Blueberries, walnuts, herbs, honeycomb, wild grass etc...
Some items like bamboo can only be found on holiday.
